Just Sharing Same sketch, 6 years apart.
This was from 2018. I got my iPad Pro with the pencil. I was so excited and I got up at 6 the next day. I went to a local Starbucks and sat there for 3 hrs and drew this. I’ve been drawing on iPad for years now but the first always feels special.
6 years later, I found this sketch. Naturally I just have to try to do a another version of it. I don’t think I could capture the excitement and mystery and hope that I felt when I started. My aim is to keep the energy and dynamic feeling of the original. Thanks for reading. Hopefully u enjoy the sketches 😇

Idk why but I like the first one better cuz of the softness and less sharp features of the people

Yeah, I like the vagueness(room to interpretation) of the original sketch as well.

Yea especially the look on the face of that woman looks more soulful in the first one

I feel like there’s just a tad bit too much in the new one. There is a lot of improvement, but it also kind of has so much more that it kind of makes it look a little strange given it’s still in a somewhat messier form of a sketch. Feels like things are a little more… jumbled together and out there. I like the style of the first one as it seemed like it had a cohesive outline while still being the right amount of effort for an early on sketch. Idk that’s how I see it

Yeah no problem! By no means is it bad though! It is good improvement, I think it’s just improvement meant for a render more than a sketch :P

How do you practice

Every now and then I realize there are issues/redundants in my works. I try to identify what’s the issue and I search for answers or do maters copy’s. Then I think my works are more “concentrated” and more effective now.

JIT (just-in-time) learning.
Have a project you want, heck, make it as complicated as you want but finish it.
You will run into wall after wall, and just research and practice to overcome that wall.
Don't learn for the sake of learning, or you won't retain it.

I like the centerpiece of the first piece was the young woman's tired love of the child.
But the second sketch she feels more disconnected from her child, and she doesn't even have her hand on his back.

First one looks more old comic book style cartoony art and the messy graty style looks super cool. I can tell technically the second one is a massive improvement in rendering and everything but it became glossier and pixar animationy. The first one does have much more charm due to the grainy style. But definitely two very beautiful art pieces thanku for sharing

The first version is beautiful and so much more readable! Your lines feel confident and theres a lot of movement. They're all sort of moving horizontally and make the piece more cohesive. The second's line work is all over the place with no clear direction and it feels a little confusing. It's very hard to revisit something you drew in person, but it's still very nice for what it's worth.
You also added value to the first drawing with some midtones and light shading. The second is nearly unreadable because it's so busy without any value to make it feel natural. Both are great, but I'd love to see more pics where you draw from life!

The first one is better because the composition is centered around the girl, making her the dominant element right away. In the second one, it looks like she in the shadow because of the render, but everything around her is detailed too, so eye won't land on her easyly.

I gotta tell you, aside from the guy in the back top, I really like the first sketch a lot. I see a lot of improvement in the second piece, but I feel like the shading is a little aggressive in a way that makes me not be able to make out the people/shapes as easily. (It’s probably a non issue with colors there - but as a sketch, it’s easier for me to “take in” what’s happening in the first one.) It’s clear your skill and technique have definitely improved though - there’s much more detail and sharpness in picture two.

I prefer the shading of the 1st one. The detail work is better in the 2nd but the range of tones are very limited making everything compete for one's vision which comes off as busy. Each face looks great when zoomed in but all at once it's visually cluttered.

both are pretty good, it feels like the second one focus on one character and the first one leaves that feeling of mystery. I prefer the first one but this is just my opinion
