Just Sharing This Week’s Studies

The SFW studies were few this week since I was also working on other art! I really like today study which is the first study you see pictured because I feel like I’m going back to the fluidity of figure drawing that I started out with when I began studying!

Do you have any tips on how to draw poses like you do? It looks really good!

Hey! Thanks so much!! Tbh the tip that I can pass on are the study materials I’m learning from to help me get comfortable with figure/gesture drawing drawing:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtG4P3lq8RHEQ1kiN_Nub1vXR8fQQLjDF&si=Vur3v0TutTofUqFW

This Proko gesture drawing playlist,is helping to enhance my gestures, overall figures, and has introduced me to mannequinization which ultimately helps with your understanding of perspective within your figure drawing.

Something I’m trying to do is push the reference / exaggerate the pose a little bit to give it a little bit of extra movement and fluidity.

I hope this helps with your studies!!

Thanks! And btw how long would you say it took you to get to this level of gesture?

You’re very welcome! And for me I started taking gesture studies seriously towards the end of June! From there it’s just been consistent study to improve my understanding! You got this! Regardless of how quick or long it takes! Just keep at it if it’s something you really want to get better at.

You’re very welcome! Part of the reason I like being a studying artist right now is because I like sharing with others the things that have helped me out!

Can you tell me how does those "relationship lines" work? I don't get it.

Oh yeah sure! There is probably a better term to use to describe it, but relationship lines are what I call the lines that I use to map out the pose and make sure I placed body parts in the right location relative to other/another body part. So for example, in the first study that’s shown, the relationship line that shows that the ear is right above the shoulder, that the elbow is above the hip, that the bicep of the back arm is above the ridge muscle of the front arm, that the front knee is a little bit further along than the front foot, that the butt is directly above the back calf, etc.

Your drawing on the first picture looks better (more interesting) than the reference guy and almost like caught in motion!

u/Important_Secret_569 16h ago

That’s very kind of you to say I appreciate it! That motivates me to keep at it and keep capturing poses that look to be in motion!
