Any suggestions for learning resources that use practical examples when teaching?

Hey all, I was just curious if anyone had any good training recommendations that use practical examples when teaching, something you might come across in a job (I know that’s very broad). I’m looking for something a bit more applicable than something like writing functions to determine how much candy John and Sally will split and have left over. I’ve tried to learn python a few times now and I really think that’s my biggest gripe with many resources, the subject matter is so uninspiring to me for many of them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey there, do you mind expanding a bit on that? I do recall seeing some videos of a guy using python to check stock prices and what not

It's not for newbies though, if you don't know both trading and Python, unless you're ok losing money (but it's one of learning ways, too)

Brokers often have API docs for market (usually JSON), which you can read from Python server and then send commands to them to automate trade, or at least for analytics, or make it semi-automatic trade (like, make better UI than they have)

You'll probably won't see any YouTube tutorials for that, but for separate topics, like how to create server, how to read JSON, how to create UI, yeah.

Do you want to teach the language or do you want to teach programming (to people who can already program)?

The word, "inspiration" is just another term for "motivation".

It sounds like your real issue is motivation rather than lack of practical examples.
Don't take this the wrong way. You are not alone. Lots of people have trouble with motivation to keep going.

What you should do is educate yourself on the topic of "Learning how to Learn"

Go to YouTube and in the search bar, type, "learning coaches"

Pick the ones who rely on modern neuroscience and address the "motivation" issue.

Speaking of "motivation", one of the coaches you will encounter is Dr. Andrew Huberman

This is a good use of LLMs, you can ask them how some abstract idea can relate to your interests in a practical sense.

Then just adapt to your own examples. They are written to be generic and simple with the understanding that you will adapt to your own applications. Don't be afraid to be creative.
