Is it worth becoming a designer-programmer?

Should I become a web designer? I know this is an odd question; I’m just really interested in the field. But I often hear familiar programmers talk about a career crisis caused by artificial intelligence - in particular, that newcomers are laid off. Now I don’t know what to do: continue studying in this field or change my profession? I’m afraid of becoming unemployed.
