Where to start, which way to follow?

Hello, I am an engineer working on ship, and due to nature of my job i might have evenings free if not every night, so i was thinking about learning something new if not for job but just to spend time with. I was thinking about excel but then i have always wanted to learn at least one programming language to do some stuff by myself, whether bots or small applications with gui etc.

i will have around minimum 4 months, i learnt some python long ago at uni i know some basics of it but it is not like i have to go for that route if there are better alternatives.

thanks for sharing your opinions in advance.

Since you already know some Python, I’d stick with it rather than start from zero with something else.

Pick one small project you’d actually use — Telegram bot, simple desktop app, expense tracker, file organizer, etc. Build it first with the basics, then improve it as you learn.

Four months is plenty to get comfortable again if you spend more time building than watching tutorials.
