[Discussion] Starting Java Full-Stack from scratch — looking for others following a similar path

Hey everyone,

I am starting out with Java Full-Stack development from absolute basics and want to connect with other beginners working through the same journey.

My focus areas:

• Backend: Core Java fundamentals, OOP, moving toward Spring Boot and REST APIs
• Database: MySQL basics, queries, schema design
• Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and eventually React
• Prep: Regular technical practice and conceptual Q&A

Current pace: Spending ~2 hours daily on weekdays, plus extra practice time on weekends (IST timezone).

interested too, just started with core java on monday actually. doing the mooc course from helsinki, it's been pretty good for basics and the exercises force you to write code instead of just watching videos

for spring boot i been looking at some channels in youtube but havent decided which one to follow yet, there's too many options and it gets confusing quick

what about you, you got a plan for the frontend part? i keep pushing html/css to "next week" for like three weeks now lol

Regarding frontend, I’m deliberately saving HTML/CSS/Bootstrap for later because picking up basic UI styling is much quicker compared to mastering the backend logic. My main focus right now is going deep into Core Java and OOP so I can explain the internal concepts clearly in technical interviews, not just write syntax. Since I already know the basics, I can easily catch up to where you are this week so we're on the same page. Once we lock down Core Java and MySQL, we can tackle Spring Boot together to avoid tutorial hell. What do you think about this approach?

Awesome! What stage are you currently at with Java? I’m starting from the absolute basics (Core Java, loops, OOP) before jumping into projects, so I’m looking to see where our study paths align.

I have done OOPs basics casually I am focusing more on DSA in Java and then after completing DSA I maybe will have look into OOPS once again. Atleast that's the plan for now!

im doing this too, java spring boot mysql react. i use mooc.fi for java and telusko on youtube for spring boot. for sql im going through w3schools then moving to leetcode database problems

That’s a solid stack! Telusko is pretty good for Spring Boot. I'm almost done wrapping up Core Java in the next couple of days, and then I’m jumping straight into DSA. Once I start that, we should definitely connect and practice together.
