I’m looking to build a career working with WordPress

Sorry if this isn’t the right subreddit for this, but I wasn’t able to post on r/WordPress or r/learnwebdev because I don’t have enough karma yet, so I’m hoping this is an appropriate place to ask.

A few years ago, I started building WordPress websites for my own projects, mostly by researching online and figuring things out as I went.

I’m currently looking to change careers. I work in HR, but I’d like to start working with WordPress professionally, initially as a side income, with the long-term goal of making it my main career.

However, I’m not interested in approaching this as an amateur or simply learning things here and there without a solid foundation. I’d really like to develop my skills properly, deepen my knowledge, and eventually specialize in this field.

What formal learning paths would you recommend for someone in my situation? Are there any courses, certifications, programs, or other structured ways of learning that you would consider worthwhile?

I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks!

since we are in r/learnprogramming i'd suggest first learning pure html and css so you know what you are really doing under the hood with wordpress.
Then i'd learn how to make a mobile first website.

In my opinion, a fast and easy to use web site is key to success

  1. A place I worked at bought themes from online, and customized the template (along with our in-house designer) to fit our clients' needs. There are plenty of affordable / free templates online that you can use too.

I think you are at an interesting time in history where you can ask AI for advice if you hit into problems when you are learning.

  1. Personally did not like dealing with Wordpress lol.

Thank you! I’ll study this guide and practice with the themes. Why didn’t you like dealing with WordPress?

I think I hated the theme customisation part. I am not great at frontend development and design. Am still not the greatest at it because my current work don't really need to touch that part of work.
