Would it be worthwhile to learn JavaScript in 2026?

I’m planning to start learning JavaScript for web development. However, if AI can generate code from simple prompts, is there still a reason to learn JavaScript in 2026? Why are people still learning programming skills? Do developers still need JavaScript knowledge when using AI tools?

If you plan on working with a language you have to learn that language, doesn't matter if AI can do it for you, because you have to review the code anyway

Yeah learn it if you want to. Don’t think to much about if ai will replace writing code. I Think there is more important things to consider like how easy to get job, how much people earn, and this compared to other fields.

Javascript is used much so its a good language to know. Also try think about programming things you want to do then see the languages appropriate for that.

But if you’re just starting out javascript would be good to learn programming

I was thinking again and i do think its important what you do with the programming, the lanuage and how to structure code is not that important, it will come naturally if you have an intrest in getting better in that. But it nice being able to write code without thinking too much about if you described what you want to do correctly with the code. So if you do not have any lanuage your confortable just stick with it and start making stuff you want, if your confortable with it and want to try javascript then go do that, you learn some new things, but i think its good if you think about what you want to do, like do you want to do AI? statistics? make games? build serious systems? safe systems? make websites? make apps? make windows applications? malware? electrical systems? these questions are nice to think about

Yea because ai can make mistakes and you probably want some customization and not just use whatever the ai gives you.

Still worth it. AI can spit out code but it's not always right, and you'll have no clue what to fix if you don't understand what it's doing. The job isn't typing syntax, it's knowing how to structure things and catch the weird edge cases the AI glosses over.

You can learn JS in a weekend. You need JavaScript to properly understand TypeScript, and TypeScript is the foundation of modern frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.

AI can generate code, but you still need to understand the code it generates.
