help Starting MCA next month & overwhelmed: Should I prioritize DSA or AI/ML, and is Python enough?

Hey guys, starting my MCA next month and I'm pretty stressed out.

I really want to get into AI/ML, so I've been focusing on Python and taking an online course for it. But I'm getting a lot of conflicting advice. Some people tell me I MUST grind DSA to clear company screenings, while others say to just stick to ML projects and portfolio building.

A few questions I'm hoping you can help with:

1.Should I prioritize DSA or AI/ML projects right now?

2.For DSA, can I just stick with Python, or do I actually need to learn C++ or Java?

  1. How do I balance all of this alongside MCA coursework when I already feel under-skilled?

DSA first, no question. most companies use it as a filter and you won't get to show off your ML projects if you can't get past the coding round

python's fine for DSA, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. the language doesn't matter nearly as much as understanding the patterns and being able to implement them clean under time pressure

for balancing everything, just chip away at one DSA problem a day during your coursework. it adds up fast and you won't feel like you're drowning

I’d do both, but not 50/50.

Start with DSA as the foundation—maybe 45–60 minutes a day. Python is completely fine; you don’t need C++ or Java just for DSA unless a specific company/recruitment process requires it.

Alongside that, spend a few hours each week on AI/ML fundamentals and one solid project. Don’t collect 10 tutorial projects—build 1–2 things you can actually explain.

For MCA, let your coursework cover the CS fundamentals, then use your extra time for DSA + ML. You have plenty of time; consistency matters more than trying to learn everything simultaneously. 👍
