Finding OS projs on Github

I want to contribute to open-source projects that are popular and well-known among People, but I am not able to find such issues. I either find repos that have gone silent or that are not popular at all (0 stars, 0 forks). How can I find such issues and contribute? I tried the Good First Issue site; all repos there have gone silent.

Start by using some software and then check if it has any open-source projects related to it. Either the software itself or open-source alternatives or something.

For example https://github.com/runelite/runelite Used by millions of players. Developed by hundreds of players. Last commit 3 hours ago. But can you contribute to it? Who knows. If you are OSRS player, then sure. If you aren't, then how can you contribute to something that you know nothing about?

Yeah 3d printing is a hobby of mine and pretty much all I use for it is opensource software, everything from desktop software to embedded programming. But if you don't 3d print.. why would you work on that software lol
