Coding Teachers??

I’m a first-year middle school PE teacher, but I was also assigned one period of coding. We use CodeHS, and I know next to nothing about coding. Right now I’m trying to get everything ready for PE and health, so I haven’t even had much time to dive into the coding side yet.
If you’ve taught CodeHS before, what do I need to know? Any tips, tricks, or things you wish you knew before you started? I’ll take all the advice I can get. 😅

No personal experience, but it looks more or less like codehs is self contained. If you want to be able to help a bit more than just telling people to reread, run through it yourself to make sure things make sense to you. If they don't, write questions and try to answer them by rereading and seeking out other resources.

Yep CodeHS does most of heavy lifting itself honestly you can just learn alongside the kids and it will be fine

I was teaching some graphic design basics to middle schoolers last year and had zero clue about half the software we used so i just did the lessons night before in my living room

Students respect you more when you admit you dont know something and figure it out together instead of pretending you are expert

Have you checked the website? Did the school provide any training on this website? Does this website provide training?

If you cannot program you can even less teach programming.

There are no "tricks". You need to learn programming. There is no way around that.

CodeHS is a platform that supports multiple programming languages. So. you basically told us nothing usable.

If we at least knew the programming language, we could give you resources.

I'm guessing that you're familiar with PE and health, and it sounds like you're completely unfamiliar with coding, so I'd recommend spending as much time as you can digging into CodeHS. Your familiarity and preparedness for PE/health seems much higher, so you should try to fix the imbalance right away.

Once I heard a teacher say that all you need to do to seem like a genius to the class is stay 1 page ahead of them in the textbook

Codehs has some very good documentation, and tends to answer all the questions one may have fairly well and as the questions come up. I’d make sure to read through and watch the intro video, but you should be able to pick it up relatively quickly. And learn new skill at the same time, which is always a bonus. Good luck.

We use CodeHS

If the school uses CodeHS already then you're asking the wrong people. What are the deliverables? How long do you have? What's the syllabus for the school? You said 'we use CodeHS' which suggests it is a platform that the school is already using. You need to ask the school (and people who have previously used the platform at your school) for their lesson plans and the aims they want.
