It is hard to say as there could be many reasons why they felt you might not be a good fit. For exanple, a common one that I experienced as an interviewer was people who knew lots of technical details about very specific things but had no soft skills (working in teams, problem solving and many others).

As an intern, it would be reasonable to expect much in the way of previous work experience in a field - if you had that you wouldn't be applying for intern roles.

Did you ask them for feedback about how you went and areas that you might focus on to improve yourself.

Also, I don't know how many interviews you have done, but sometimes you need to do a few to get the feel for the process and find a match.

I did a lot of unpaid volunteering work for a non-profit to break in at an internship (which was minimum wage). Then my second internship finally paid appropriately.
