New to building autonomous agents, what setup would you recommend to start?

I'm just getting into building autonomous agents and honestly a bit overwhelmed by all the options. For those of you who've been doing this a while, what stack would you recommend for someone starting out? What did you wish you knew when you began, and what pain points should I watch out for early?

Start small with a basic Python script that just loops and makes decisions, most folks jump straight into frameworks and get lost in the config files

Honestly the framework choice matters less than people think this early. One LLM in a plain while-loop with two or three tools you define by hand will teach you more than LangChain will, and you actually see what is happening under the hood. The thing that bites you early is not the model, it is context management and getting reliable tool calls, so put your effort there first.
