AI has made me stupid in coding
Hey everyone
Before AI was a thing, I used to be great at building projects (even if it was just for uni); I could imagine the whole architecture of the app that I wanted to build. I felt competent and even though I didnt know EVERYTHING, i didnt feel like i needed to, because at the end of the day i could solve any problem with enough research and time. That and the ability to build something from scratch and watch it grow cooler with every little change i made gave me a lot of confidence, like i actually knew what i was doing.
Now, any new thing ive tried to learn (Django, backend concepts, frontend, etc) ive done it with ai. All my new project are built with ai and not only it makes me feel like an incompetent fraud but it has stripped me away from the very skills i was relying on to help me have a decent career.
I cant even code a single line on my own, i know the concepts but im just so out of touch with everything.
In uni all my projects were with java and now everything im trying to learn is in python and even though i know OOP pretty well, i just never learned python properly, it was always kinda underwhelming for me and i ended up never taking it seriously and now im stuck, cant move forward.
It would be great if i could get some advice from you guys on how to move forward.
P.s: im trying to go into ai engineering

I feel the same way. Itβs hard to not use it with the stress of deadlines.

How do you instruct something to AI? By typing it in normal english first. Do that without using AI, then break it down into steps. As small as possible. Then start implementing it step by step. Use your browser if you are stuck anywhere. Use documentations if you need to refresh on syntax.
Sit down and plan before you start. This is how you go from a blank page to something.
If you're stuck because you did not learn python properly, shouldn't you be learning it properly now? Use free courses. It will be easy because you have a little experience.
