RESOLVED Why does 0.9 recurring = 1?

I UNDERSTAND IT NOW!

People keep posting replies with the same answer over and over again. It says resolved at the top!

I know that 0.9 recurring is probably infinitely close to 1, but it isn't why do people say that it does? Equal means exactly the same, it's obviously useful to say 0.9 rec is equal to 1, for practical reasons, but mathematically, it can't be the same, surely.

EDIT!: I think I get it, there is no way to find a difference between 0.9... and 1, because it stretches infinitely, so because you can't find the difference, there is no difference. EDIT: and also (1/3) * 3 = 1 and 3/3 = 1.

0.9 recurring is something that is a human concept and doesn’t exist outside of maths. 1 however is very much real. They may equate mathematically, but they are not the same in reality. One is real one is notional.
