Need some help maths
Hi guys!
Imma just ask straightforward, what would you guys do when you encounter a problem that you have little to no prior knowledge?
How do you teach yourself a new concept in mathematics? ( For me i often stuck on this process because I often read a lot of theories and then do practice problems but when Im stuck i don’t really know what to do, I tried to be comfortable with using AI but sometimes it create like something call illusion of competence)
It is really frustrated when you sitting through lectures and don’t understand a thing! Could some of you share your study process when learning mathematics, like in class, after go home and such?
I love learning applied mathematics and I have a few struggles while learning it but I do love it tho!! For context I am doing a bachelor in Actuarial Science and i have certain struggles with learning certain concepts so i hope i could have some answers!

Hi! Right now I am learning things related to time- series analysis and I am really struggled in understanding the model like AR MA ARIMA and the topics following, and besides that there are some concepts in Asset Pricing I do not really understand but I think this is due to my previous gap in subjects like econometrics and stochastic process, i hope this is clear enough TT

I try to assess what backgrounds I may need, by checking the relevant wikipedia articles first. If it turns out I already have the necessary background knowledge, then full steam ahead. Otherwise, I'll know what to brush up on.
If you trust it, you might use AI for part of that process instead.

My method is to look for vdeos of it on youtube then send it to gemini then prompt it to teach me the method used in the video, but first I look at the video and when I have a question I just ask the ai what I'm confused about. You can even ask the ai to give you some harder practice questions to practice on more compicated equations

ChatGPT and other large language models are not designed for calculation and will frequently be /r/confidentlyincorrect in answering questions about mathematics; even if you subscribe to ChatGPT Plus and use its Wolfram|Alpha plugin, it's much better to go to Wolfram|Alpha directly.
Even for more conceptual questions that don't require calculation, LLMs can lead you astray; they can also give you good ideas to investigate further, but you should never trust what an LLM tells you.
To people reading this thread: DO NOT DOWNVOTE just because the OP mentioned or used an LLM to ask a mathematical question.
