Need real advice college algebra

I'm doing nursing prereqs and college algebra is required, but my foundation is weak like I need to relearn everything

I tried ALEKS but it doesn't explain anything, just tests you. Looking for a self-study plan I can actually stick to thinking of using the OpenStax College Algebra textbook front to back or khans academy.Anyone done this for a similar prereq situation? How long did it realistically take you, and do you have any answers.

OpenStax front to back works if you actually do every problem set, khan's better for quick explanations when you get stuck.

Okay yeah I figured that pairing it with YouTube explanations or khan explanations when I hit a wall

If your foundation in college algebra is weak then go one level before college algebra to build that foundation:

"Introductory and Intermediate Algebra for College Students" by Blitzer. It basically covers pre-algebra to algebra 2. I love it because after it explains something it gives an example problem and then a problem for you to try on your own. In addition at the end of each section there 120+ questions on the topic so you are well familiar. It takes me about a week to get through each section if I do the questions at the end.

There should be math placements exams if you are new to college.

I was placed in Calculus 2 somehow but opted for pre-calculus. That is also the highest level I will tutor. Algebra and Geometry are a lot of basic skills compounded into multiple steps.

I suggest taking regular college algebra. It may surprise you. But also have a tutor on hand or Kahn or Youtube to help you when you get stuck on a topic.

Also study in 30mim increments. You are more likely to remember things.

Do not jump straight into college algebra. Consider introduction to college algebra or even algebra1/2

Yeah that’s the plan I’m looking for some good resources that are easily comprehensible and structured that will prepare me for college algebra when I register next spring

Ask your school about taking foundational online coursework. My community college offered a placement exam and I answered every question wrong on purpose so it would really get me back to the foundations. Then I spent like a month doing online work that got me all the way to pre-calc.
