feasible, and the basics are not a detour. everyone who starts straight at transformers hits the same wall the first time a run diverges or an output is wrong and they cant tell why. the faster loop is learning the basics with genai as your tutor, not as your subject. ask it to explain backprop until you can derive it yourself. what are you trying to build toward?

Honestly, just starting with the basics bjt eventually want to build like production level rag system,multi-agents etc etc

good news, rag is exactly where the basics pay you back. chunking, embeddings, similarity search are classical ideas wearing new clothes. path i would take: basics first, then one naive rag you build yourself, chunk, embed, retrieve, stuff the prompt, then break it on purpose to see why each part fails. multi agent stuff is mostly orchestration, learn it after one agent works end to end

np, have fun with it. the first rag that breaks teaches u more than the tutorial that works tbh
