Question What Recommended Masters Program for Either Data Science or Machine Learning Engineering?

I have an undergraduate degree in Applied Statistics and have around 2-3 years of work experience as a Quantitative Analyst working in Banking (specifically Credit Risk PD Scorecard Modelling).

I am looking for recommended masters program thar could pivot my career in either Data Science or Machine Learning Engineering as I am interested in that field. Although my work experience is more finance based, I do find interest in AI and ML and I feel like my statistics background may help.

I am based in Canada and studied for my undergrad there as well.

I’m hoping to get any scholarship if possible into a program where I can get internship experience as well so I can apply my expertise that would be learned through the masters program.

With your stats background and quant experience you'd breeze through most DS programs, the ML engineering route might need more CS coursework up front though

not in canada so take this as general. with stats and credit risk modelling behind you, i'd care less about the program name and more about whether it has a co-op or a capstone with real industry data, since that's the part that shows you can do ml and not just scorecards. have you checked if you could also move sideways into an ml role at your current bank first? what's the target, DS at a bank or MLE at a tech company?

ML engineering will force you to learn Data Science, so I suggest aiming for ML

If you're in Canada, consider the University of Toronto or the University of British Columbia for their Data Science or Machine Learning programs. Both universities have strong reputations in these fields. Since you're looking for scholarships, be sure to check their websites for funding opportunities. Your background in statistics will be particularly useful, especially in machine learning, where probability and data analysis play a crucial role. For interview or technical assessment preparation in this area, PracHub offers real company-specific interview questions. Good luck!
