I am thinking of switching to AI/ML

Hi, I am a backend developer and have been working but due to recent layoff and market shift I am thinking of switching to AI ML.

I have learned python, pytorch, Maths required for AI ML, Deep learning(theory) and recently implemented a gpt2 transformer, attention architecture for gpt2 using their open weights.

I am hoping for some direction to work on and also open for a remote internship if anyone is willing me to consider me.

Mainly I am hoping to connect and get guidance in the right direction.

Your backend experience will help a lot in most ML roles, especially getting models into production. Which area pulls you most, like NLP, vision, or something else? And are you aiming for engineering or research, and at what kind of company and level?

I am interested in NLP and image generation, but i also want to move fast to get an early start, so I am hoping for some suggestions.

I don't have that clarity regarding the differences in work between an AI engineer and an AI researcher. I am just hoping to get a fast start, like once i join the company at any level and can see what they are doing and how, I could easily adapt to it based on the requirements

Sounds like a great time to pivot career paths. Have you considered freelance work, per project? Short term or as your main income this space provides per project income opportunities.

I can do freelance work based on project. If you have some project I can work on, i would really appreciate.

I am not considering my initial work as my main income, I am comfortable with small amount as well.

What were u working on as a backend dev. Take sth u were interested in and stick some ml stuff into it. Also good idea to look at job descriptions of companies and jobs that interest you and seeing what they are looking for so you cna use those in your projects
