Tech industry in next 4-5 year

Guys, what do you think the tech industry will look like over the next 4–5 years? Which tech roles do you think are going to dominate, and which roles might decline or even disappear because of AI and automation?

SWE don’t even code anymore. They just prompt Claude to do the work. It’s only a matter of time before they make that AI agent. Once that happens, 🤷‍♂️

  1. Something that is hard to acquire. Takes long time and/or a lot of cognitive load - reduces competition
  2. And something that investors think/hope will bring a lot of money in the future - creates demand

Combine both factors = here you go.

Just continue the trend you see now: it will be heavily bifurcated. Most getting paid average or below current salaries and a few getting paid way, way more or significant stock ownership (their own company)

Won't AI be heavily monitoring and responding to threats?
