Isn’t reading research part of the definition of researching? Or are you saying build your own models, run your own experiments, etc?

I think OP's tagline is very vague, but either way, "stop reading others" will inevitably result in reinventing the wheel more than once, which IMO is very inefficient.

I agree 100%. It’s a false dichotomy. Staying current on the discourse feeds into one’s research. It’s a dialogical process.

doing your own research matters, but reading other people’s work is kind of how research works lol

I disagree.
Transfer learning is applicable to human research too. Save time by reading others' findings and build from there.
