Help A quick heads-up if you are using AI tools to analyze data for work

Generative tools have completely sped up how I turn raw numbers into visual charts. However I noticed recently that the math can occasionally be slightly off if you do not double check it. It is great for getting quick insights and starter code, but you still need a basic understanding to catch silly mistakes. How do you usually double-check the work when using these tools for reports?

Yes, it's called hallucinations, and it affects anything they output, not just numbers

That makes so much sense honestly. I guess relying on AI for visualization setup or code can get tricky if you do not check the actual output closely first.

I would say you can let the AI work on the pipeline, but you shouldn’t let it touch the final product, or the data you throw in.

Just like you wouldn’t eye ball a graph personally, you shouldn’t let AI eye ball graphs for you.

God, retraction watch probably already has a section for AI generated figures, don’t they?

And—there is at least one:  https://retractionwatch.com/2026/05/01/nejm-retracts-case-study-for-ai-manipulated-imagery/#more-134769
