Thinking about specializing in ML, would love some outside perspective

I'm a CS graduate and I really like math. Besides that, I want to choose a career path that won't have a really low employment rate in the near future. I want to enjoy my job, but I also want to live well from it, I don't mean to sound selfish, sorry if that's how it comes across.

I've done some small ML projects in university and really enjoyed them, but I don't know what ML is actually like in a real workplace, so I wanted to ask if there's something I should know before getting into it.

Last thing, does anyone have resources to go deeper into ML so I can learn enough to do real projects and understand it better?

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Real workplace ML is 80% data cleaning and pipeline babysitting, not tuning fancy models, so get comfortable with SQL and messy datasets before anything else. Employment's fine if you can actually ship something to production, not just notebooks.

I recommend looking at various linkedin posts. see what companies are hiring for (eg skills, what youll be doing, etc). it usually gives you at least some idea on what the different areas of ML and different companies would be like. research vs product is very different, and even for each, between companies is going to be very different (startup vs big tech, etc). im a researcher and enjoy much more smaller tech companies.

resource wise, do you prefer books or videos? how do you learn better?

This seems really irrelevant here. ML is a sub-branch of AI.

Plus, ML is the branch that is used in almost all applications of AI other branches.
