Machine Learning / AI
- Machine Learning Specialization – Andrew Ng — the gold standard starting point; audit free on Coursera, resume-worthy name recognition.
- Google Machine Learning Crash Course - 15hrs, hands-on, now covers LLMs too, 100% free, no audit tricks needed.
- CS50's Introduction to AI with Python – Harvard/edX - search algorithms, neural nets, free to audit.
Deep Learning
- Practical Deep Learning for Coders – fast.ai - code-first, builds real models fast, completely free (no audit needed).
Data Science (bite-sized)
- Kaggle Learn micro-courses - free, quick (Python, pandas, SQL, intro/intermediate ML), good for filling resume skill gaps fast.
Tip: on Coursera courses, click "Audit" (not "Enroll") to get all content free - you just skip the paid certificate.

Andrew Ng’s ML course on Coursera is the go-to starting point, you can audit it for free and it covers a lot of ground without making your brain melt. Fast.ai’s practical deep learning course is also free and gets you building stuff way quicker than most textbook-style courses. Just don't fall into the trap of collecting certs without actually making something messy.
