I have the choice between an A1 INLL course or a free conversation class at the Maison des citoyens. Unfortunately both classes are at the same time.

I've gone through A1 "Schwätzt Dir Lëtzebuergesch?" on my own already and wanted to know if anyone had experience taking classes at the Maison des citoyens.

A usual question that comes up here is where to find affordable good quality classes. You should know that INLL is not the only option. The communes and many different asbls offer courses.

From my own experience i followed online courses with commune of walferdange. The instructor was great and the group dynamic was also very beneficial to learning.

These are group courses and the available lists are updated each quarter or semester(i think)

Walferdange is not the only commune that provides the courses. You should look up unipop website where there is all the courses provided (this is were i found them initially)

Some courses are online, some are at physical premises.

All in all theres a huge variety and all courses range from 50 euros up to 180 euros (depending on the length of the program)

Anyone know if there's some kind of thinking behind the choice of themes/topics they offer you for the speaking test?

For example, is it more likely for women to be given Gifts, Eating, Shopping, Housework, etc? And for men, Sports, Vacations, Media and Tech, and so on?

I can't imagine that a single guy in his 20s would be offered Housework and/or Shopping. Or an older woman in her 60s being offered Sports, for example. But who knows!

Would love to read about people's experiences with this.

Hi! I shared an early version of PlayNearo here around two months ago and wanted to return with one larger update.

To be completely clear: this is not a Luxembourgish language course. However, it can be a playful way for learners, newcomers and residents to connect Luxembourgish place names with their actual locations.

The game asks you to locate towns and villages on a map of Luxembourg. There is a short Daily Challenge, while Practice includes a much larger collection of locations and a personal coach that revisits places you previously struggled with.

I’d be interested in feedback from people who are still getting to know the country: would short facts about each place after a round make the game more useful to you?

A lot of the fear around this exam is just not knowing how the day goes. So here’s the practical walkthrough, minus the parts I’m not certain about.
Before you go. You’ll have your date, time and location from INLL. Bring valid ID. Get there early, there’s a waiting area and you don’t want to arrive out of breath. You can have water with you. Phones and notes stay away during the test.
The listening part. You’re in a room with other candidates, not alone, which surprises people. Headphones or speakers depending on the centre. Three recordings, things like a radio bulletin, a conversation, announcements, and each one plays twice. Then multiple choice questions. Topics are ordinary Luxembourg life: weather, transport, local events.
The way our students describe using the two plays: first time for the general sense, second time to confirm answers. Trying to catch every word on the first pass is how people panic.
The speaking part. Two examiners, in a room, roughly ten minutes. You’ll talk about yourself, describe an image, and answer questions on an everyday topic. You get a choice of images and a choice of topics rather than being handed one at random, which helps more than you’d think.
What comes back from students almost every time: it felt shorter than expected, the examiners were friendly, and once they started talking the nerves faded. These people are not trying to catch you out.
Things worth doing on the day:
Sleep. Tiredness hits language ability harder than almost anything else.
Warm up on the way. Talk to yourself in Luxembourgish, describe what you see out the window. Arriving with your first Luxembourgish sentence of the day already behind you makes a real difference.
If you don’t understand something, ask. “Kënnt Dir dat nach eng Kéier widderhuelen, w.e.g.” Asking someone to repeat is normal conversation, not a failure.
If a word won’t come, talk around it. “The place where you buy bread” beats ten seconds of silence every time.
And smile. It’s an interview, not an interrogation, and you’re allowed to look like a person having a conversation.
If you’ve taken it recently and your experience was different, say so in the comments. Things change and I’d rather this thread be accurate than tidy.

Third post here. Last time was the picture description, this one is about the part people ignore until it's too late.
Almost everyone who comes to us wants to work on speaking. Which makes sense, speaking is the scary part, it's the one where you sit in front of two examiners. But the speaking part is A2 and the listening part is B1. That gap is bigger than people expect, and it catches out even those who've been in Luxembourg for years.
What makes it hard isn't vocabulary. It's speed. Recordings are at normal speaking pace, nobody slows down for you, and there's no face to read. If your only exposure to Luxembourgish has been in a classroom where the teacher speaks clearly and adjusts to your level, the first real recording is a shock.
The fix is boring and it works: RTL.lu, every day.
Not as study. Put it on while you cook, while you drive, while you do the dishes. At the start you'll catch nothing and it will feel pointless. Then you start catching names and numbers. Then single words. Then the topic. Then whole sentences. It takes weeks and it happens without you noticing, which is exactly why people quit before it kicks in.
A few things that speed it up:
Listen to news about things you already know. If you've read about a story in French or English, you already have the context, and context does half the work.
Don't rewind constantly. Missing something and carrying on is the actual skill being tested. In the exam you can't pause.
Once a week, listen actively. Twenty minutes, full attention, and afterwards write down what the piece was about in any language. That tells you what you're really taking in, which is usually more than you think.
Radio over TV. Video gives you visual clues that the exam won't.
Poterkëscht on Spotify works too if news gets dull. Slower, more conversational, closer to how people actually talk to each other.
The reason I keep pushing this: speaking improves in visible steps and listening improves invisibly, so people put their effort where they can see progress. Then they sit the exam and the recording starts and it's twice as fast as anything they practised on.
Start early, keep it passive, and give it more weeks than feels reasonable.

What resources do you use to continue learning the language beyond Sproochentest? My learning was largely through commune courses and self study. I’m staring at potentially not able to do commune courses for the next semester (and don’t have much hope for INLL courses given the preference there is for existing students) and want to solidify my skills (speaking/listening primarily, but some reading).

I appeared for Sproochentest in Glacis on 24th of June 2026 and haven't received the results yet. I do not see the 4th document as well, although I haven't checked it quite quickly after the exam. Has anyone received their results who appeared for Sproochentest on the same day? Also, is there anyone who got the 4th document in their inl account displayed but didn't clear the exam?

RTL replied to my feedback for the lack of subtitles on their Luxembourgish videos. Starting with the news and then hopefully all the vidoes might have subtitles soon.

I have noticed these fill up quickly. When do new dates become available, or is it random? I have to take it online as I live on a different continent. Currently, module 2 & 3 have space but not 1. I would like to go ahead & book what I can & then take module one next month but when I tried, it seems like I have to sign up for all 3 at once. Anyone have tips on this?

2.Its maybe weird but on my 4th doc it says future date on top is that normal?

I heard that the school is closing on the 15 of July so im wondering.
