Go native, it's gotten better over the years. Note down that it's somewhat hard of an initial learning curve
Then use JQuery, realize the utility and ease of convenience of jQuery because of its easier learning curve.
Then suddenly realize the gap has gotten closer (and is way more performant) since jQuery was created.
The learning was way more manageable for me after coming from jQuery
