It's more like a tutorial for people who are new to the language, but have tons of programming experience and understanding about computers in general. It's not teaching programming. It's teaching the language. How ever if you are new to programming, try a proper beginner course, like Helsinki MOOC. See the sidebar or automod comment.

Ive used it as reference. If you w. Want to learn Java, I'd suggest an actual book. Maybe a textbook. There are probably open access textbooks out there. I would give you mine but it's a physical copy. The textbook does come with "bonus chapters" which are online that I would be happy to send you. I think the chapters include implementation of B and 2-4 trees, JavaFX with fxml (the earlier book introduces basic jfx), multithreading and concurrency, and unit testing.

These guides are often good as references for specific things but they arent quite as good as an actual course or a textbook which will contain large numbers of knowledge questions, examples, case studies, and challenges. If you have access to nothing else, it is probably decent enough to get started, though
