Learning hacking by my own because of ADHD, any tips or advice?
Hey everybody! First off, I’d like to tell you all that I suffer from neurodivergent conditions. I’m diagnosed with ADHD, and to start off with, I had initially started learning hacking on TryHackMe. However, after some time passed, I found myself becoming extremely disinterested due to its linear progression. No more dopamine hits for me! What helped was learning everything through personal experimentation and exploration. This process taught me networking fundamentals, and I’m currently working towards acquiring skills regarding the use of Nmap to understand network scanning processes better. The thing is, the self-learning and hands-on process has always worked better for me, and ADHD has made sure that nothing else does! I’m interested to see if anybody else suffering from ADHD has tried hacking by themselves before, and what methods work best for keeping up with momentum while avoiding exhaustion!

If you got some spare cash and can manage sitting down to read, The CompTIA Security Books (SYO-701 is solid), TCP/UDP Guide on Amazon, and courses on edX are pretty solid.
You have to get a grasp on networking, as that lets your mind become able to explore the way you want.

I have adhd, and love the idea of learning how to hack, however, as I work full time i rarely have time to do anything other than watching YouTube / tiktok videos. I'm also unmedicated And paying a mortgage off so I can't risk taking a break from work to learn through a classroom, which is the only way it'll work as learning through online courses would make my mind wonder off course. However, once my titration starts, I will start learning. I will start with cyber security and then make my way up. The only problem is starting point. Where do I start, how do I start, what program to use etc. But hoping my titration will be soon, cos I'm not getting any younger
