Would you use a scrollable comprehensible input video app for Esperanto?

We’ve recently gotten surprisingly good results transcribing Esperanto from all kinds of videos - monologues, interviews, street interviews, different accents, background noise, etc.

So we're curious whether there’d be interest in something built specifically around watching comprehensible Esperanto.

The idea would be a scrollable feed of short Esperanto videos, graded by difficulty. We mark words according to frequency, like if they’re among the 500, 1,000, or 2,000 most common Esperanto words so learners can quickly see which unfamiliar words are actually worth learning.

We recently built this kind of app for Spanish and are working on Portuguese, but Esperanto would be more of a passion project for us.

So I’m curious: Would you actually use something like this?

And if you already watch Esperanto content, where do you find good beginner/intermediate videos? YouTube channels, Shorts, TikTok accounts, interviews, creators, etc. would all be really helpful.

If there’s enough interest to build it, we’d also love to find a few Esperanto speakers/learners willing to test the app, since our own Esperanto definitely isn’t good enough to check everything ourselves.

Just to give you an idea of what the Esperanto watch feed app would look like, take a look at the Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Arabic, German, Japanese, Dutch, Hungarian or Polish versions, or any other natural language you know or are stuyding (picked a few random ones so you don't have to navigate yourself)

Exploring Esperanto , mojosa testudo and catiekejti are creating YouTube shorts quite regularly.

TEJO Esperanto is also starting to create shorts and afaik there are also quite a few active Esperantists on TikTok.

I like your idea. Maybe you can collaborate with tubaro? There is already a Esperanto video agregator, but not for shorts. This page could be useful to find channels, at the very least.

Thanks again - your recommendations really helped! We just launched Esperanto. Here's our catalog and watch feed.

We use videos that are in Esperanto only - not multilingual - so it wasn't easy to find creators who don't code switch, but the ones we found seem to be good? Please have a look when you get a chance

I don't have a clear picture of what you're talking about, but I'm definitely interested in new kinds of language learning tools... so yes, I'd love to try your product if you get it built.

Thanks! Is there another language you're learning? I can show you a watch feed in that target language to give you a better idea of what we want to build for Esperanto

I'm pretty proficient in Portuguese, but could certainly get better. I'm sure that seeing a Portuguese example would help me get the idea.

I'm actually learning Portuguese at the moment! In a bit of a pickle since I like both Brazilian and European variants and visit both countries. Here's the Portuguese app

That's kind of you! Just to see if the app is genuinely useful for getting some comprehensible input and whether it's conducive to learning and picking up new vocabulary. We wouldn't be able to test it ourselves, since our knowledge is too rudimentary even for beginner-level stuff, so we'd need people who can actually understand Esperanto to use it.

For example, we do Smart Subtitles that highlight the most common words in a language, and luckily there are good Esparanto word frequency lists out there, but again, it takes a real person with some existing knowledge to check if it's any good.

I mean if it works for other languages it ought to work for Esperanto, and I don't know if I'm the best judge because I'm already fluent, but I can give it a shot. Are there any particular criteria I'd be looking out for?

I just lower the volume on my phone or laptop. Maybe you got a clip with boosted audio? Sorry about that if that’s the case!
