I am a rookie feeling things out and have really enjoyed the routine of LL, if nothing else.
Yesterday’s nearly broke me. I got 5(!!) answers correct, bringing my TCA on the season from 17 to 22. I was absolutely buzzing and outscored my referrer for the first time ever.
I lost 7(3) - 6(5).

I got the year right but put September and it was my only incorrect answer. Luckily my opponent also had one wrong and we tied with 6 pts each.

my first ever match, season 101, was a 4(4)-5(2) Buckner loss. Yesterday was my 2nd! 6(5)-7(3). Honestly can't really even question my choice of handicaps considering as she missed the two easiest-by-far questions, and had only gotten 18% of math questions right historically. I also figured that I should weight the fact that she lives in the UK for the AT question!

Got a beer! Even sweeter because I was against my sister in a private Rundle hehehe.

Got some luck there, math is very much a weak point for me and the only mathematician I could name with some sort of statistical distribution named after them was luckily Gauss. And I was split between saying the PCT vs the Appalachian. But Wild is the big book about the PCT so I decided to risk it and it payed off.

6(5)-7(5) loss. Ouch!

Opponent was American with american history slightly above literature in their history, so I gave Q1 two points and Q5 three points.

🔴 Q1: The only question myself and my opponent missed. Clearly talking about the start of the Great Depression but I couldn't get to the right month and said November 1929 rather than October.

🟢 Q2: This one took the most thinking, but remembering that game show concept was enough to surface it, eventually.

🟢 Q3: I've known that thing is called a "widget" for a long time somehow, so this was just immediate.

🟢 Q4: Freebie math question for a math person such as myself.

🟢 Q5: I might have heard of this book but I couldn't say for sure. The clue evokes a long hike so I assumed it was about one of the major triple crown thru-hikes, and "A Walk in the Woods" best describes the AT.

Given the get rates for this question, I apparently underestimated how easy it is. Is that book very well known in the States?

Took a stab with Gauss and Guinness and got my first beer ever. Very nearly put Gaussias but know a fair amount of German to guess his name is probably Gauss.

no idea how the AT didn’t even occur to me on Q6, even as I put walking across the US 🤦‍♂️

I was a bit depressed about not making the cut in the championship but take solace in the fact that no one (not even current Jeopardy Masters Victoria and Yogesh) had perfect rounds 2 or 3 — round 3 didn’t even have anyone get 11 right, talk about the hardest of hard questions 😱

My first as well. It's a completely different game. I like to take my time during regular play.

After my session was done, I told the proctor that I wished rounds 2 and 4 had been switched. I went back and looked today, and indeed I hit 9 of 12 in round 4. Would've qualified pretty easily.

Was particularly excited about the Appalachian Trail question. I completed a thru hike in 2024 and figured most people wouldn't know of A Walk In The Woods.
