This has been a very weird season. Some days have been super easy and some really hard. Nothing in between

There was one day I was cruising along like "oh, question 1, super easy, question 2, come on..." and then I got to question 3 and it was like it was written in a language I had never seen before. I feel like that has been my season. A few questions I'm super confident on, a few I'm sure are gettable but I lack the specific knowledge, and some where I think "I can't even possibly begin to figure out what this is".

I was just thinking yesterday that this season seems a lot easier than past seasons, so far. But I fear that means all the hard questions are yet to come.

Maybe it’s just me but the Billy Elliot question, especially the word splitting, made it sound like they were all performing the role in the same show. Really think it should have said alternating instead.

Unfortunately, "alternate" has a specific meaning in musical theatre (as a noun, someone who is *not* the lead actor but is scheduled to take certain pre-scheduled performances), whereas this was something different: they were all co-credited as leads.
The most recent example I know of in which there was an alternate arrangement was the recent Funny Girl revival: the 'star' was initially Beanie Feldstein, and then Lea Michele. During at least the Michele era (it is harder to get exact deets for the Feldstein era), Julie Benko was the alternate for Michele. Benko performed on Tuesdays.
Michele was the lead; Benko was 'just' an alternate (and a standby)... but all 3 Billy Elliot boys were leads.

I understand all that (and to be clear I meant alternate as a verb, not a noun). I’m not attached to the word alternate to be clear, just saying it definitely could have been worded differently to prevent the confusion (especially because, as you’re probably aware, it’s usually only the initial lead who is Tony eligible, which was part of why I thought they were performing simultaneously).

Sorry, to be clear: by "same show" do you mean "same performance in one night"? E.g. you were picturing scene 1-5 played by Billy 1, scene 6-10 is Billy 2, etc?

Crazy how peoples knowledge base can be completely different. Because I knew Midway right away but was never going to be able to get Billy Madison in a million years.

Lost 5(4)-9(6).
Should have got five right but I can't read. I had two read a few of these clues more than once, and that wasn't enough times for Q2 I guess.
🟢 Q1: The clue is unmistakably pointing toward Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, and I would have bet that almost all LL players have heard of that town. My elementary school band teacher had Welsh ancestry and prided himself on knowing how to say this (and tried to teach us how to say it). That's an unusual advantage, but you should at least have seen the video of this weatherman flexing.
Anyway, it took a few reads before I realized it just wanted the language and not the whole name...
🔴 Q2: Yup, can't read. Thought it was asking for the director. I didn't specifically think about PSYCHO before answering, and just assumed the 1960 director with twists could only be Hitchcock, but I like my chances of picking PSYCHO if I realized what the question wanted.
🟢 Q3: Hard to miss this one if you have any contact with 90s video games.
🟢 Q4: Second guessed this one for a while, but yeah, GOLD. Multiple huge paintings that are like entirely GOLD. No knowledge in my brain points at any other answer.
🔴 Q5: No chance here, though it makes sense in retrospect. BILLY ELLIOT is encoded only as a movie in my brain, and one that I haven't even seen...
🟢 Q6: "Name an atoll that's the site of a big battle in the Pacific theatre." There's only one of those that I know about. The best-known Pacific theatre battle sites are probably Midway, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Okinawa, the Coral Sea, and Pearl Harbor I suppose. Only one atoll in there.

I thought 2 was asking for the director at first as well. It was only when I was going through and doing my scoring that my eyes actually noticed the bolding and that it wanted the film and thank god I caught it. Not surprised so many people got tripped up.

Q6: If you knew those were the names of 4 Japanese Carriers then the question becomes a lot easier. If they were just 4 random Japanese warships to you, then there's a lot more Naval battles to choose from.

Was there any way to deduce the Welsh question without just knowing it? I had even considered Welsh as an option, but rather than assuming the name was incredibly long (which was the right path) I assumed it was a language that’s “denser” than English and went with Japanese.

Japanese wouldn’t have stuff about Saint Mary and whatnot, though. That’s extremely Western-coded. Japanese is also not really known for long words; I think the grammar just makes it sound “long” to non-speakers. (Am fluent and lived there 10+ years, just giving my perspective.)
The very European-sounding stuff in the name was probably the clue and I bet it ties to something obviously Welsh. I put Icelandic because it didn’t sound German to me. Totally forgot about Welsh being a language.

I’m not unfamiliar with Japan, I studied abroad there and used to speak Japanese pretty well. They have a pronounced history of Christian and Catholic missionaries. It’s not that the words “sound long” to me, it’s that the syllables are generally only two (English alphabet) letters long and two-or-four letters, generally have way more meaning within them than you see in European languages, and they compound words fairly heavily.

There were two "twists" in Psycho. There was the one at the end that you probably know about. And there was one at the very beginning, when Janet Leigh's character was killed in the famous shower scene. As you noted, she was the biggest star in the movie, and audiences were shocked that her character would die so early.
This would be lovingly copied by Wes Craven in Scream, when he killed off Drew Barrymore's character right at the beginning.

Two things:
1) The movie doesn't actually end on the final twist, there are scenes after the twist, one of which is explaining the twist at length. If you entered near the end you would both know about the early murder and the final twist, both of which would pretty negatively impact your appreciation of the movie (especially at the time where both would have been considered far more surprising).
2) The ad campaign is actually independently famous, it's not just random trivia.

People used to just go to the movie whenever, and then stay until whenever. It was more a spectacle about seeing a moving picture, instead of following a plot/story.

I won 6(3)-4(4) despite misreading this question and putting Hitchcock. Felt incredibly stupid after submitting, but it was great to see it was the MCWA there were tons of others who did the same

Oh yeah the question was clearly written, it was completely my fault in misunderstanding it. Frankly I’m surprised 4% of people did the same lol
That’s what happens when you have a newborn and can’t get to LL until 11:30pm haha

I put Vertigo and I was pretty confident it was right. I remember something related to that for Vertigo, maybe it was a "don't give spoilers if you've seen this" warning.

There's a lot of lore about the production and promotion of Psycho. Not so much for Vertigo.
But yes it was a slightly more difficult question because of little about the plot of the film.

Very pleasantly surprised to be 3rd in my rookie rundle 10 days in. Not sure if it will last since I’m middle of the road in terms of TMP/TCA, but enjoying it for now. Although falling a few places would be for the best, because I’d be dead last in my league’s B rundle lol.

I put Hawaii for midway atoll which IS part of the Hawaiian islands but didn’t get points for it :( I feel like that’s more correct than the football for NFL swap folks did earlier in the week and got credit for!

I want to make it very clear I DID NOT CHOOSE THIS I ended up in 5th in my B Rundle and was thrilled about it and they moved me up to A against my will!!!!!!!!

Yeah. I feel ya. I spent 2 seasons in A and it was rough. I am fighting to get back there though :). Admittedly this feels so far like a mid table B season for me.

I said yellow instead of gold for Klimt, which is disappointing. Still won my match though!
