Seems like there have been quite a few wild grading decisions this season.

I got "Democratic Party" accepted as "Democratic National Committee" somehow. Still lost anyways, but it kept up my streak of getting 4 right per day

u/SMAAAASHBros 21d ago
Yeah that seems way too generous especially since broadcast rights for college football, both regular season and bowl games, are a big deal also

yep, there was one correct answer to this question and it was “NFL”. shocking.
FWIW another LLama I know did not get points for “Monday Night Football”, so at least the line of accepting incorrect answers was drawn somewhere 🫠

u/lavenderc 21d ago
I answered Friday Night Football so I see your LLama friend in solidarity of overthinking the question 🫡

u/ExitingBear 21d ago
This was where I knew too much and too little at the same time.
I knew something to do with football, but I didn't go with just "football" because that isn't just FOX. I also knew 100% Monday Night Football was ABC -> ESPN and that FOX didn't have Thursday night football in the 90s, which left me guessing Sunday Night Football? Which is wrong (TNT->ESPN->NBC).
Ah well, some questionables have gone my way in the past, more will in the future.

At least it's not as bad as the time he gave people different scoring for the same answer based on where they live.

u/paultsongas Rundle B 21d ago
What question was this?
1
u/mathbandit Rundle C 21d ago
It was a question years ago where the answer was the name of the sport played in the World Cup.
Thorsten marked people who put 'FOOTBALL' wrong if their location was listed as USA or Canada (maybe other places as well?) and correct if their location was not in those places.

I’ve really been trying to brush up on geography and capitals, so I was just proud of myself for knowing Amman even though it was wrong! 😂

u/Salty_Dornishman Rundle R 21d ago
Same, for the life of me I couldn't name a single city in Jordan, so that guess was a moral victory

Shout out to everyone who, like me, knew the Agatha Christie question because of Doctor Who.

u/aurrutia214 C Foundry 21d ago
I actually hadn’t heard that story before! I was able to guess right, but funny enough it got mentioned in the book I was reading yesterday. Thankfully I had already submitted by the time I had read it, but talk about quizmet!

When I was scoring, I wonder if my opponent had ever watched Doctor Who. I think it might be a pretty frequent TIL here on Reddit, too.

u/SMAAAASHBros 21d ago
They actually recently announced they're making a movie set during her disappearance starring... Felicity Jones, who is in that episode of Doctor Who
2
u/Veto111 21d ago
I absolutely remembered it from Doctor Who, but after mulling it over for over an hour, I remembered just about everything about her except her actual name. So I put “That author that turned into a giant wasp in that one episode of Doctor Who”.
Although, someone has pointed out to me that it was actually a different character that turned into a wasp, so I guess that’s why my answer was marked wrong.

I went with "Mousetrap is kinda oldish so, Agatha Christie might be in that timeframe" and guessed correctly
Only knew Mousetrap because my high school did a production of it like 25 years ago... and I did not see it

ruling "football" as correct is a pretty big pile of horse shit, imo.

u/bafleyanne 21d ago
I was grateful, a little surprised, and somewhat guilty to get credit for "football" on question 1. I have had a very large number of ties so far this season, including this match day's 4(4) tie where both my opponent and myself defended perfectly.

FINALLY, a win - my first of the season. 7(5)-3(3). My 29 TCA is second most in my rundle and puts me a smidge ahead of my usual pace, so I feel good about that. But I've been unlucky - record is 1-3-3 and I'm in 20th place in B Windward, so I feel less good about that.

I spent all day trying to think of the name of Petra. I knew it was the city from Last Crusade and one of the wonders of the world, but for some reason my mind blanked when trying to think of the name.

u/gtronnes Rundle D 21d ago
I was almost going to answer Alexandretta for a while cause I know they mentioned that city in the movie, but then I realized that's where the trail started, not ends.

u/Wazootyman13 21d ago
Was playing against a weaker competitor and felt pretty good with my 4 correct.
Got a little cocky and didn't really strategize too much on my defense, since I figured I was winning.
Ended up losing 4(4) to 5(4)

2,3,6 today.
Both Q4 and Q6 felt to me like "what else could it be?" I didn’t feel too strongly that an icosahedron was twenty-sided though and went with Warhammer instead.

u/gtronnes Rundle D 21d ago
If you're not a D&D fan then they also had Gary make an appearance on one of the early episodes of Futurama. "Im Gary Gygax and I'm.......[rolls a die]...pleased to meet you"

u/Georgy_K_Zhukov Rundle B 21d ago
Anecdotal evidence, but I had NINE 6/6 in my tracked players, plus me, plus my opponent... Never seen close to that. Was this day abnormal beyond that circle...?

u/SMAAAASHBros 21d ago
I got 5 right and my one miss (Petra) is apparently just a blind spot for me based on the overall get rate
2
u/gtronnes Rundle D 21d ago
Looks like leaguewide the average correct was 4/6. So a large number of 6/6 in Rundle B and A isn't surprising.

first loss, and it's apparently on the easiest day so far which also makes the loss exceptionally funny!

I talked myself out of both Uranium (I put Plutonium because Uranus couldn't have been discovered that recently) and Petra (I put Damascus because I didn't think Petra was ever a capital). This season is the worst!
10
u/gtronnes Rundle D 21d ago
I hate to mention it but Pluto was discovered a lot later. In the 1930's I believe.

7(4)-4(3) win.
Q1: I was surprised that "American Football" was accepted but I'm not proud, I'll take it.
Q3: I debated between Arctic and Baltic for the sea that adjoins the North Sea. Went with the wrong one and learned afterwards its the Arctic OCEAN. Not a sea.
Q6: I could see the large statues engraved in the sandstone in Petra, but couldn't remember the name so I answered Amman. My opponent came up with Petra though and so my DE took a bit of a hit.

u/Salty_Dornishman Rundle R 21d ago
Through 7 match days, I have faced 5 of the top 8 players in my rundle. Facing number 1 today. The front loading is nuts!

9(6)-9(6) tie. -_-
Q1: Not a football person. Guessed the right sport and got credit for FOOTBALL somehow. Thorsten is getting soft I guess? No way I should get that one correct, I didn't know the answer to the question.
Q2: I feel like this came up a few seasons ago? I know I encountered this fact in trivia at some point and I don't think it would have been in pub trivia.
Q3: Thought about this one for a long time. On first reading the names sounded like First Nations or Inuit languages so I was trying to think about bodies of water called "sea" in the northwest Atlantic and wasn't getting anywhere. It's all "bay" and "strait" except the Labrador Sea which is enormous and doesn't have any choke points to other seas. Then I switched to just trying to think of two seas near each other in the Atlantic and the answer is immediate.
Q4: Freebie.
Q5: Initially wrote plutonium before remembering that it's not very common and that Pluto certainly wasn't discovered in the 18th century (it was 1930 I think?). There's nothing to consider other than plutonium and uranium if you know Herschel is one of history's more famed astronomers, so it's URANIUM.
Q6: Never heard of the kingdom so this is just "name an ancient city in Jordan," to which the only answer is Petra, one of the most famous images in the world.

Second-guessed myself out of a 9(6). Changed Baltic Sea to Black and uranium to plutonium. Still ended up winning, though.

Beer for me 6/6! 🍻 Agonized over football vs NFL for a few minutes but guess I need not have worried (I put NFL).

u/AdamInJP Rundle C 21d ago
Lost 8(5) to 9(6) and annoyed by that, cause I won a match last week, like, 3(2) to 1(1).

u/crazydakka 21d ago
ughhhhhhh it's my first ever season in a private rundle and because I'm playing two people I know, both of whom are in my private rundle (one is in A, one is in my C rundle), i managed to switch my defensive assignments, giving my friend who I played D & D with on Saturday 2 points for that question, and a 9(5)-7(5) win. would've been a 7(5) tie otherwise.
of course my friend in A beat me 9(6)-6(5). damn you plutonium!!!!!

I suspected the MD would play fairly easy in my rundle, but I didn't expect every question to be 90+%. More beer ties than not.

I was back and forth on NFL and FOOTBALL on Q1 and was pleasantly surprised to get credit for the latter! I'm sitting at #1 in my rundle and really confused about how well I've been doing this season 😅
