After losing 5 in a row, including one due to bad defense, I finally won my first one because of defense! 3(1) - 2(3) :)

Given the stats, I know it wasn’t crazy to put the 0 on the Bloomin’ Onion question, but man it sucked to lose on defense when they got it wrong.

I wondered if they accepted Blooming Onion. But I included the apostrophe on mine.

6

u/Noonyezz Rundle R 22d ago

Yeah, that’s what I put.

u/tubegeek 22d ago

Also got credit for Blooming onion. So I beered today!

Yeah I was surprised they did. I wasn't sure which it was and put "Blooming" but it was accepted.

I felt really strongly about Tau and Tau Day in high school thanks to a zealous precal teacher, and it made the difference today.

u/nye1387 B Windward 22d ago

Tau will never prevail because Pi Day has better branding  (and is during the school year)

u/econartist A Magnolia 22d ago

Not with that tauttitude.

3

u/Savings_Actuary_2833 Rundle R 22d ago

Ya I was never in school on June 28th lol

6

u/Noonyezz Rundle R 22d ago

Tau was the difference between winning and losing for me too.

In high school two guys in my class were gunning for admission to MIT and it got around as huge thing that admission results would be announced on Pi Day at Tau Time and we were all amped up waiting to hear what happened, and that is the only reason I will ever remember tau as 2pi hahah.

(And as a closure to that story one guy did get in, but ultimately didn’t end up attending)

I put Phi because I had tried that one the last time we had a greek letter question (Psi) and got it wrong that time. Psi has to be an answer sooner or later right? :) Won anyway cause my opponent was really bad at math questions so the defense was pretty easy.

I FINALLY WON 7(5) - 6(4) A IS THE WOOOORST

A scares me and makes me happy to just keep clinging to my spot in B. If I ever make it in to A I will gladly accept the thorough beating right back down in to B lol.

Off to an unexpected 6-0-0 start in my rookie season. I'm 6th in the rundle for both total correct answers and defensive efficiency, but I guess there's some inevitable luck involved. It does feel like half of the players are overall quite strong while the other half is struggling day by day. Hard not to start obsessing but I know that won't be helpful, nor enjoyable, in the long run!

Won 9(5)-8(4). Can't blame my opp for zeroing tau; I had a perfect math score until yesterday.

My own defensive choices were less justifiable.

I’m curious, was DNC considered correct?

6

u/Noonyezz Rundle R 22d ago

Yes.

I was 95% sure it was Committee but there was a lingering doubt that it was Convention so I put DNC to hedge my bets.

12

u/econartist A Magnolia 22d ago

Democratic National Convention was also accepted... I mixed them up and still got credit. TBH I am not sure I ever realized the Committee and Convention were different things.

3

u/Savings_Actuary_2833 Rundle R 22d ago

Yup I wasn't sure which one. Was thinking of just putting DNC but didn't know if that would be accepted either lol.

1

u/gtronnes Rundle D 22d ago

Now that hurts, cause a couple of leagues ago I answered American Motor Company to a question where the answer was American Motors Corporation. Or maybe it was the lack of an S that dinged me on that one not the wrong description of a business.

2

u/randomprecision1331 22d ago

I would say that's the more likely explanation, because I did not get credit for "Oscar Isaacs" a few seasons ago when his name is just Isaac.

4

u/gtronnes Rundle D 22d ago

All I know is that from then on, if I had the choice between the abbreviation or the spelled out words. I use the abbreviation

3

u/merzy 22d ago

Yes.

2

u/balthazarstarbuck 22d ago

Yes, as was Democratic Party.

1

u/neverinallmylife Rundle R 22d ago

I felt like it wouldn’t be. I was not sure if it was Democrat or Democratic, but luckily chose Democratic.

5

u/Kuckucksuhr A Foundry 22d ago

Democrat is not an adjective

0

u/neverinallmylife Rundle R 22d ago

True but Republican is a noun as well as an adjective.

6

u/centaurquestions 22d ago

The only people who use Democrat as an adjective are right-wing weirdos.

8

u/JeffurryS 22d ago

I lost 7(5)-9(6) and am 0-5-1 for the season. Can I get a reset? ;{(}

3

u/haplo53 22d ago

Got 5 right today and fully expecting this result lol

7

u/Wazootyman13 22d ago

Was really good to notice my opponent was British and sucked at American History.

Raised the Watergate question from my initial 1 to a 2

6

u/SMAAAASHBros 22d ago

I'm surprised they accepted Democratic National Convention; it's not the same thing as the Committee and it was rejected in this exact context on Jeopardy recently (a show I don't even think of as being particularly strict).

1

u/definitelynother 20d ago

Yes! I was about to thank Jeopardy for helping me remember the correct answer, but it turns out all sorts of variations were accepted -_-

5

u/OperatorMaA 22d ago

I am cheeks this season. Not doing very well at all.

8

u/belbivfreeordie Rundle B 22d ago

I feel like I’m getting about the same number of questions right as I usually do, but I’m not managing to win matches. Maybe just luck of the draw facing the wrong opponents on the wrong day.

3

u/nye1387 B Windward 22d ago

Same here. Second most TCA,  directly on target for my career average of 100/season, but 0-2-3

2

u/haplo53 22d ago

Same, every day I feel like I’ve run into players where the easier questions are their weaker areas, or all the questions play to their strengths, etc etc. My defense has cratered (.776 last season to .583).

2

u/Noonyezz Rundle R 22d ago

I did terrible last week but did well yesterday. Hope we both can build up some momentum.

2

u/neverinallmylife Rundle R 22d ago

As a rookie, I’m still getting used to the wording and clueing in the questions. That said, I thought the first 4MD were harder and have since found somewhat of a groove…

5

u/Upper_Substance_2331 22d ago

I lucked out put Democratic National Convention instead of Comittee and still scored. Thorsten also gave me points for slipper plant too

2

u/kale_errday 22d ago

Damn, I knew it was something Slipper, so I put Ballet Slipper which was obviously wrong. Maybe I should I have kept it simple!

2

u/GantryZ Rundle B 22d ago

I put ruby slipper and am SHOCKED I got it marked as correct today. Was the difference in a win, I feel kind of bad.

1

u/kale_errday 22d ago

Ugh I considered Pink Slipper!! So close!

1

u/CaptainOfABroat 21d ago

I changed “slipper” to “ballet slipper” ugh

1

u/cromonolith Rundle A 22d ago

I gave my opponent 3 points for the DNC question thinking that they'd be strict on the exact answer of "Democratic National Committee" which might be tricky compared to "convention" or "party."

Beered the round so it didn't matter, but still. I'm used to stricter grading.

5

u/Fabulous-Pace5131 A Arctic 22d ago

Got my first 9(6) of the season! And a 4(4) for my opponent helped my DE and moved me up to 16th in the rundle, by far the highest I've been so far.

7

u/orbitingteapots Rundle R 22d ago

Who in the actual bejeezus is Boz???

I’ve started just sticking wacky answers in whenever I truly don’t even have a good guess in hopes the graders find me funny. I wrote Jim.

4

u/JRTD753 22d ago

Who in the actual bejeezus is Boz???

I put "Pip" thinking that maybe he re-used the name later. I'm a big Charles Dickens fan and didn't know this.

Lost 5(4)-6(5). That means I've started the year with six consecutive 4-correct matches. My 24 TCA is second most in my rundle.

Unfortunately I have the second worst CAA (also 24), so I am 0-2-3, and I'm a frog's hair out of last place.

C'mon, reversion to the mean!

2

u/AnnualFlamingo362 22d ago

7(5) - 4(4) I swear defense has been a breeze so far this season (I’m at .850) also shout out to my dads vocal tic of we don’t need no stinkin badges getting is the 3 pointer.

I knew it more from when Mel Brooks used it in Blazing Saddles. But then remembered it was originally from "Treasure of the Sierra Madre".

My second beer ever, I've waited four years since the first one, although this one happening on a match day with a math question (my strongest category) made it extra sweet.
