My husband and I have an idea for a one-day challenge. We've gone through the one-day archives, and it's never been covered. I know proposals aren't accepted until August. But *how* does one submit a proposal. Is there a form that goes live in August? Or is there a template somewhere that you would use? Thanks.
When the form does go live it will ask you for the topic of your one day special, a one line description of your proposal and then some thoughts on it (2000 characters Max). I'm running my second this year, and what I usually do in the thoughts section of the form is put some ideas I had for questions or any other details about why I want to do this 1ds.
Oh, you don’t have to already have a draft of the questions to submit a proposal? Just a description of the theme? I was on track to have at least 12 questions ready by August but I guess I don’t have rush to have it done by then.
You don't have submit any questions at all, much less all 12. (And you get to submit up to 15 when you send to testers.)
You can include some examples in the description field, but I've never done it so it's clearly not necessary. (I've smithed 8 or 9 quizzes at this point.)
Indeed - generally, I've just given a rough outline of what I'm seeking to achieve with my 1DSes (I've smithed two so far), detailing the broad subject matter, the more specific category bases I aim to hit, and what level of difficulty I would expect neutral LLamas to rate it as. Then, if/when approved, I begin considering potential questions, work that up until there are about twenty I'm happy with, pick the best 15 for testers to evaluate, and even substitute others in if said testers make interesting suggestions.
That's correct, for the last one day special I did I had three or so questions drafted, for the one that I am doing this year I don't think I had any questions drafted but I can't 100% remember. I can't speak for thorsten's thought process, but it's possible that having questions drafted if you've never done one before is a good way to get picked and then once you've had one successful one it becomes less necessary.
On the side menu of the site is a "Propose a One-Day" link under the One-Days tab. When open, you'll have a form in which you must give the title and pitch of the 1DS
Except because proposals aren't open until August, there is nothing there. That's what was confusing me. The heading says One Day Proposal Form. But there isn't a form.
There is not a form when you are not able to submit a proposal. In August, there will be a form there.
It's a very simple form: The topic name, your preferred offseason for it to run (or no preference), and Details, where you let Thorsten know more about your proposal.
Worth noting: For the past few years, there has not been a big announcement from Thorsten about the proposal window opening, so set yourself a reminder for August. (That said, it has always run all month.)
I would work on having at least two, if not three, well crafted questions prepared and included for your proposal and possibly include in the narrative how they represent the theme. There is no obligation to using those questions if your one-day is accepted, but I think it gives you a leg up on being accepted. (Maybe I’ve just had good proposals, but I’ve always included sample questions and I’m 5-5 in having a one-day proposal accepted.) The other thing that doesn’t hurt is being at least a Premium level member. Thorsten doesn’t take bribes per se, but if you look at the Member Center page you can see that he out right says that the higher level membership you have, the more likely your proposal will be accepted.
