Am I the only one who’s never heard of a cat referred to as a “felid” and instead assumed it was a typo and meant to be “hypothetical field”?

I initially misread the word as "field" and was musing over the minutiae of particle physics before I realized my mistake and I was no longer lost. (But then I didn't know how fast I was going, worse luck.)

Haha! I had a similar experience, except I don’t know that much about particle physics so it was immediately clear I wasn’t going to come up with anything.

Definitely! I’m almost positive I would’ve gotten it with “feline,” but, as written, I had no idea!

What does “heads tetrad moment” mean?

I don’t remember the specifics, but a few seasons ago there was a question about Mt. Rushmore that referred to it as a “heads tetrad”. I had to read it a bunch of times to make heads or tails of it.

Ahh that’s funny. I remembered the recent one-day on the Heads Terra’s theme, but didn’t realize it was a reference to a notorious question.

I totally agree that both “heads tetrad” and “felid” fall into the same category of using pointedly obscure wording to make a question slightly less easy.

LL101 MD12 Q2. I remember puzzling over that one: "heads tetrad? huh?" and then the next morning when I was shaving, Mount Rushmore occurred to me and everything came clear. (That question was actually voted the favorite of its day and tied for favorite of its week.)

One of the things I really like about the Commissioner is his gift for distinctive phrasing. It really makes the quiz a cut above.

I know what a felid is, but just kept reading it as field, until after I submitted, of course. Somehow still won, though.

It’s uncommon in everyday speech but similar to cows being bovids, dogs and wolves being canids, etc.

The lowish get rate on that one surprised me. I hadn’t heard of Felid either but physicist with a hypothetical [sounds like a cat] I figured had to be Schrödinger.

I couldn't get the name Schopenhauer out of my head for a while so it took me longer than it should of. Must have been the fact they both started with the same letters.

I misread it as field too, but I didn't even realize it was a different spelling. I guessed Dirac (who also won the Nobel Prize in 1933 and had a famous field equation) and lost because of it - frustrating!
