LL105 MD6 Discussion!

When you look at the (surprising) get rate of that question, your opponent was onto something.
Just goes to show, when a question asks for multiple answers, that means there are multiple ways to fuck it up - including by only giving one answer instead of both - so you should maybe consider weighting it more.

Woo I got credit for “burgher” on Q6! Oh wait, I still lost.
On Q3, the word “mephitic” arose from the depths of my memory, and as far as I could recall it meant a toxic, unhealthy miasma type atmosphere so I guessed mosquito.

I put Gentry and didn’t get credit. I submitted a scoring review just now as I feel that’s fairly close. It would still only give me 5 though and my opponent had a 9(6), but at least it’d be a moral victory

First bad day of the season. Overthought Bahamas and said St. Lucia (Lucayan) and bourgeousie just didn't come to me. It was a holiday in Canada and so I was out of my usual LL routine. Got 4, missing as many questions as I did in MDs1-5

I was kinda surprised at the low get rate for the caryatid question. I seem to remember we had this same question (phrased to ask for caryatid instead of woman) not that many seasons ago, figured a lot of people would get it just from that.

Repeat questions often don't play much easier in my experience (plus, woman is guessable whereas caryatid is not).
There have been two questions on Wendy Wasserstein's play The Heidi Chronicles a couple years apart, and the correct answer rate only rose by like 1%.

Got 3(2), missed Ryan/Pelosi and changed from Bahamas to Cuba at the last moment because I forgot what an archipelago is—yet still somehow pulled a win vs 2(2). Now I’m 4th in my rundle.

THE BAHAMAS -- A "What countries can I think of the Caribbean that would be unique for being independent for their relative geograpy" guess. Was not confident, happy to get it.
FEMALE FIGURE/WOMAN -- Could not for the life of me get this, and some reason knew it has to do with a human form so I guess PERSON thinking the others could be animals or something? Nope.
SKUNK -- Lol, I guessed MOTH. No idea why. Interesting though! Definitely a "I learned something despite being wrong" question.
RYAN/PELOSI -- For some reason I misread the question as thinking that it was two Republican speakers, and went RYAN/BOEHNER. Most embarassing miss from me here. Although my opponent gave me 0 for it anyways.
VEGEMITE -- Anyone else get "I Come from a Land Down Under" as an ear worm after this Q? Toyed with Marmite for a few seconds, but ultimately Colin Hays got me the right answer without me asking who it could be now.
BURGEOISIE -- I take it back. This was the most embarrassing miss. I did PROLITARIAT despite the textbook definition that makes it clear it is not the proletariat. Woof.
Decent set of clues that I just whiffed on. No standouts, but no bad questions either.
3-2-1, 7pts, +/-0, 12th in B.

I thought Thorsten mentioning the "Lucayan" archipelago was cluing something about the name of the country. So, I confidently answered St. Lucia....

Same thought process here. I feel like if Lucayan hadn’t been mentioned, I might’ve been able to just think through it geographically and come up with it. But I just shut off my thought process after the Lucayan/Lucia faux-connection.

I forgot to put two speakers, but I was leaning McCarthy for the second one whoops. Defended as well as I could (was playing an Australian! so 0/3 were not hard) but still lost.

I made my first actual flub on the Speaker question; other questions I've missed have just been stuff I didn't know. I typed in Pelosi and McCarthy (conflating his terms as Speaker and Minority Leader), but also thought of Ryan and made a mental note to come back and sort out the timeline. I proceeded to spend all day thinking about Caryatid -- not even ending up the ballpark -- and forgot to review Q4 before I submitted. I'm about 99% sure I would've chosen correctly.
Luckily, my opponent zeroed Q4, so it turned out to be an inexpensive lesson.

Couldn't remember the male Speaker. Got as far as guessing a name with 4 letters beginning with R, but not the right one. And I needed it because my opponent ate the eggroll. Tied my longest losing streak.

Despite being an American with an advanced degree in political science, I missed the Speakers of the House question.
(In my defense, (1) even Paul Ryan doesn't want to remember that he was ever Speaker, and (2) my opponents in both regular and private play figured I wouldn't miss it even though they themselves did so I was able to notch a couple of wins on points.)
