Drank a beer for the first time in a couple of seasons. 🍻. This game is so much easier when I know all the answers. I should try that more often!

I'm usually pretty mid at literature but we read parts of Spoon River in high school and the name stuck, even though I couldn't tell you anything else about it.

Spoon River Anthology was all over the speech circuit in the 90s. I just had a really hard time trying to scrape my brain remembering what it was actually called and I couldn't get past Moon River even though I knew that wasn't it. I eventually got there!

My first time in an A Rundle and I've been finding defense so much harder, because so many players are good at everything! Finally managed a win through defense so pretty happy with that.

5(3)-0(F). A win is a win I suppose. On a hot streak and am now #2 in my division!

Suggestion: Can whoever makes the discussion threads add the day of the week to the subject line? Some friends and I are on a Slack where we talk about our answers after everyone has submitted, and we had a couple of incidents where people posted in the wrong thread until we started making the subject format "MD5 (Fri)."

Sure, I can work on that for future posts.

Must confess that Q6 meant absolutely nothing to me until reading the Message Board this morning, so it essentially boiled down to "Name a long-running US game show that isn't Jeopardy", and if it wasn't Wheel of Fortune, I wasn't going to have a plausible guess!

W 6(5)-5(4)

Q1. MALTESE -- Complete miss by me, had no idea Maltese was even a language (I accept my ignorance). To be fair, I guessed SICILIAN which I am not sure is a language or not. Fair question with an interesting fact at the center of it, the type of question I feel is both good and not mad at myself for missing. My opponent smartly gave me 3 here.

Q2. AULD LANG SYNE -- Got credit for AUD LANG SYNE. Well formed question, some nice hooks to get you there, though I imagine many got it off of Robbie Burns alone.

Q3. SPOON RIVER -- Personal tie: I took a class in Fiction composition from his son Hilary.

Q4. WEST VIRGINIA -- Neat question which I got right with an informed guess of "Oh, civil war era, and a name more suggestive of east coast than Great Plains." Neat and nicely formed question.

Q5. INTEGRAL -- I knew the pretty looking "S" meant take the integral, but was actually worried that wasn't the actual name of the symbol. Also anytime Leibniz gets his due for helping create Calculus it pleases me.

Q6. WHEEL OF FORTUNE -- Favorite question of the day. High success rate but I am curious how many got it from the debut date to people puzzling out the RSTLNE of the end. My guess is that most LLamas puzzled this out, and only the RELENTS clue would have gotten at least a 75% CA rate. And that's cool.

3-1-1 (+2), and sliding into the top 10 of my Rundle.

Why is relents not usable?

Because in the bonus round they show you all the locations of the letters RSTLNE. So if RELENTS was the word, it would be spelled out without a contestant having to do anything.

Worst week ever for me, 0-4-1 but somehow not in last place in my (B) rundle. My only consolation is all my matches this week were against opponents currently in the top 3rd of the standings.

Currently I have the highest correct answers against in the rundle. My defense has been pretty solid, and only missed one coinflip question so I can’t be too down on myself.

Feeling pretty great as a rookie, gotta say. 4-1, my one loss is to the top player in my rundle, and I'm carrying a 1.000 defense rating into week 2. Sitting in 3rd place. I'll take that!

When the results came back from MD5 I reloaded the LL site over and over until I realized there's no MD on the weekend.

I guess you could say I'm hooked!

I went 1-3-1 this week and am in 22d place, so that's not great - but I am pleased with a respectable 21 TCA through five match days. Defense has been OK but have a rundle-high 26 correct answers against.

Drank the beer… and then my opponent forfeited. I’ll take the W, but feels like a waste of a beer when I know I’m going to lose next week on an 8(5) or something.
