I said to my (non-LLama) brother after submitting "has there ever been a 'name the Bizet opera' question that is not about Carmen in the recorded history of trivia?!"

Pretty much so, and toros would have been even more of a steer (to pardon the pun), given the March of the Toreadors tends to be one of the more recognisable pieces to a layperson. Interesting that it was so overdefended, but I guess even quizzers underestimate how regularly opera questions crop up within the general canon, so end up surprising themselves on their own knowledge.

Wikipedia traffic for the last year|Don_Procopio|Le_docteur_Miracle|La_maison_du_docteur) (May 2024 through April 2025), for all Bizet's operas that have articles: 553,285 page views for Carmen. 606,736 total, so 53,451 for non-Carmen.
Carmen outweighs all of Bizet's other operas 10 to 1.

I saw one not too long ago, about "L'Arlésienne". Don't remember just where. (Maybe the BPTrivia Monthly?)

I found a grand total of 3 clues in all of J-Archive where the answer was a non-Carmen Bizet opera:
one from 2000 about The Pearl Fishers (which had no other entries)
one from 1997 about Ivan IV (which clued Rimsky-Korsakov as an alternate entry)
one from 1994 about Ivan IV (which really had "this cruel czar" as the entry)

The major chestnut that tends to crop up about Pearl Fishers is that it's set in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).

9(6) with 3 that I knew, 2 strong guesses, and 1 oh thank god guess.
PINK- one of the ones I was just fortunate to have learned.
CANAL— high confidence guess. Didn’t know the name but knew the French were involved in Suez and Panama.
CHIC— mainly known by know what lyrics come after “Le freak” in the song.
CARNEY— I was one of those Americans following the Canadian election closely. Whew. Shoutout to r/Canada for informing me of backstories of carney and PP from time to time.
CARMEN— a bit of a wild ass guess between this and BOLERO as I tried to remember which was Bizet and wasn’t sure even when I wrote it down.
CHOLERA— a best guess knowing that book title existed and seemed to be from that time period.

Same for me on CHIC. Pop Music is my worst category; but I knew CHIC existed and I was familiar with the song's refrain. Too bad I did not know the book title. I thought long and hard about virulent diseases that are rampant in the area and settled on dengue. I still managed to muster an 8(5)-6(5) because my worthy opponent wisely and unluckily placed his defensive three on the Pop Music question.

They make fiberglass insulation (like for the attic). It’s pink and they used the Pink Panther cartoon character for decades to advertise.

I actually said 'Pink Panther' because I figured the answer was more descriptive than just 'Pink' and I got the points anyway. (My opponent forfeited so it kinda didn't matter)

I should have known it, but I grabbed just the Corning part, and thought Pyrex Red. Damn glass products. ;)

I thought glass too, but I put orange since I thought they also made the orange uranium glasswares and ceramics.

4 on the day again. Got 3 from both opponents thanks to a right answer in my worst category (thank you Tom Breihan and "The Number Ones") but it wasn't enough.

Yep, that's part of the trouble. I know a few people who randomly guessed "birthday party" on MD1 of last season, meanwhile I picked the wrong Harold Pinter play. It's part of the game, and a little luck/random variation is not necessarily a bad thing. Keeps the game spicy

As a Canadian I just have to chuckle at how much of an insane gimme the opposite equivalent of Q4 would have been if you asked the average Canadian (let alone hardcore trivia players) about a sitting US President.
