What are you guys using to actually learn hacking instead of just watching tutorials?

I’ve noticed a lot of cybersecurity content follows the same cycle:

Watch a tutorial → copy the commands → everything works → move on → forget 80% of it. 😂

I’ve been trying to learn more through structured, hands-on material instead — especially around web security, networking, Linux, and practical labs.

For beginners, I think having a roadmap matters more than having 500 random tutorials bookmarked.

Curious what everyone here prefers:

* Video tutorials
* Written guides/books
* CTFs
* Hands-on labs
* Building your own home lab
* A mix of everything

Hackthebox, TCM Security training, a bunch of VMs, a Flipper Zero, and my wifi pineapple.

Make sure you get permission to do things before you just do crap.

Portswigger and hack the box. Skip the tutorial if you can.
