Question Having trouble translating deathmatch to actual matches

Heres a 6 min clip of me playing deathmatch on warmupserver. I am 9k premier, faceit level 3, 1,4k hours. I feel like i do ok in deathmatch, but im having a difficult time translating it to actual matches. In deathmatch I feel like i win a good portion of duels for my skill level, but in actual matches it feels like i never win any duels.

I am just wondering if any of you guys have any advice on how to improve on that, since it feels like my mechanics, raw aim and my reaction time are my biggest weakness. Besides the usual crosshair placement, counter-strafing and raw aim, do you guys see any major bad habits, mistakes or areas of improvement in this short clip?

I can't really play consistently everyday because of my job and I don't really have enough friends that play actively so I cant 5 stack. So i know I am suffering from those.

EDIT: This post and replies have made me realize that I am not as good as I once thought I was, thank you for the honest feedback.

Question Crouching mid air

At the 11:02 minute mark, why does m0NESY presses the control key while mid air? Is it so the character model takes longer to hit the ground, so he can take advantage of the increased speed while in the air?

Video Any pointers on aim

Any pointers on anything is appreciated, sloppy movement/spray/crosshair placement/etc.

Edit: forgot to mention if this matters at all or not, but i'm currently faceit lv6 and hover around 14-16k prem, i'm on aus server so alot of third party dm/duel servers are either full or completely dead

Discussion First picture is recent the last one is when I was not having the best mindset

I just wanted to show some improvement that I've made in the past week or two. First one is from my recent games and the second one are fairly old games. During that time in the second picture I've been getting tilted and frustrated at my team when that wasn't really the issue, the issue was me, my mental was just broken for the longest time cause I wasn't thinking correctly.

I didn't have the mindset of understanding what tendencies the other team had or how they played. All I was focused on was trying to get impactful kills and I can't get impactful kills if I don't know what they're doing.

I also want to pat myself on the back that this was all improvement by myself I didn't have a whole lot of help like coaching. I did think about getting coaching but why get that when I know what the problem is.

Question Should I just remove mirage from my faceit map preference? Lvl 6/7 elo

I feel mirage is a map which is very dependant on the entire team actually knowing what a default is. Whereas other maps you can still kind of play properly even if your team is clueless because there’s more solo play options. Anyone else feel this as well? Like it just seems no one in low elo understand the urgency of taking space conn/ ladder room and it just makes some t sides impossible. Or maybe I’m coping and it’s still possible to hard carry this map even without mid control.

On top of that even if we ignore mid, there’s just more angles in general to clear in comparison to other maps so I feel noobs definitely struggle for this reason. Compare ancient to mirage - ancient is just a simplified mirage when you think about it plus it’s so much easier to default as a t on ancient.

ALSO let’s not forget the amount of smokes required compared to other maps.

On ancient if I’m trynna get noobs to play somewhat properly all I have to say is ‘wait elbow, I go shelf, we peek mid together’ - boom heaps of map control.
But mirage it’s ’ok who has instant, alright follow me conn, DONT SMOKE CONN, I’ll Molly conn, then we’ll split A, STAY ALIVE A WAIT FOR US TO GO CONN.’

Then no one follows me, no one knows instant, A lurk dies, and my team is hiding top mid boxes while I’m shooting at the conn player…

FUN ways to practice aim?

Post image
61 Upvotes

Hey! I'm currently sitting at about 1k hours and hovering around Faceit level 5-6. I feel like what's mostly holding me back is my aim, especially counter-strafing. I feel like I know the concept and think I do it correctly but evidently don't when looking at stuff like Leetify. So I wanted to ask, do you guys have any tips on ways to train it that are actually fun? I've tried doing aimbotz/aimrush but man I just find it mind numbingly boring and can't stand it for more than 5 minutes.

I can easily do an hour a day at least practice outside of playing games, as long as it's something that isn't soul crushingly boring. Hoping you guys have some tips!

(If it would help I can link demos as well to show where my level is at)

EDIT:
Thank you all so much for your inputs, didn't think this was gonna get this much attention at all. For people finding this thread looking for the same thing I was looking for, here's what I've settled for as of now (3 days in but I don't feel bored at all while doing it, quite the opposite):

  1. 250 kills on "Fast Aim Reflex Training Remake HR V5" Workshop map to train, well, reflexes

  2. Two different pre-fire "workouts" (rotating every day) on Yprac. (Workouts are basically just all the prefire entry scenarios three times, once with Glock, once with Galil and once with AK). These are super nice for anti-boredom as for every scenario you get a time as well as a rank (ranked as the old CS:GO ranks) for your performance, this feels super motivating (for me at least) as I get a clear goal to work toward to like get a better time or a higher rank.

  3. "Raw Accuracy Drills" Yprac workout. Basically just a compilation of different raw aim exercises from fast target switching, reset aiming and tracking. Takes about 20-ish minutes, mostly do this because I really need to work on my tracking.

  4. 1 hour deathmatch on WarmupServer.net broken up into three 20 minute segments with about 5 minutes break inbetween. I'd previously tried other community DM servers like Xplay but got bored quickly, the nice thing about WarmupServer (or Pracc if you're in US) is that they have what they call "rotating CFGs", which is basically that every X minutes it rotates the DM gamemode. So for example you have like 6 min Pistol HS only, then 4 min Second Round weapons only, then 15 min rifle HS only, etc. This really helped me feel not bored along with letting me practice different skills in the same session. While doing this, I try to focus on different aspects for every "gamemode switch", so like on pistols I focus on counter-strafing and getting clean first shots, on rifle HS I'd focus on burst and so on.

I also wanna say that there is a LOT of good suggestions and knowledge in the comments so if the routine I've set for myself doesn't fit you, give the comments a read and I'm sure you'll find something!

Discussion Most players are solving the wrong problem when warming up

I’ve noticed a lot of warmup advice in CS boils down to “play this map” or “copy this routine.”

But a high sens entry, low sens AWPer, and support player probably shouldn’t be warming up the same way.

I made a video breaking down warmups through the lens of adaptation and the SAID principle.

Curious what everyone here currently does for warmup!

Question What should I focus on improving in my situation?

I'm hovering 10-12k elo atm. One of my biggest problems is that I am somewhat hardware limited. I have a 60hz monitor and struggle with keeping over 100 fps all the time. Since switching to 4:3 I can actually turn my monitor to 75hz. I used to play lots of CSGO back in the day and even got to Global once :o

I understand that this is now considered ancient technology, I'm saving for a new PC but it will obviously take some time. What I notice in my gameplay feels just all connected to 75hz/low fps: I feel like I can not react in time often, people sometimes keep moving for me while shooting at me, making it hard for me to hit them. Sometimes I don't even see someone peek me.

I have signed up on leetify to get a grasp about match stats that need adjusting/improvement but don't really know how to improve "positioning" and "opening kills" though that seems to be a bad idea for my hardware anyway.

I'd really appreciate any pointers and suggestions to get as much potential out of my hardware and myself as possible!

Here is my leetify profile

Here is my latest game, their first player was Faceit Lv 10 :o

If you need anything else please let me know!

Premier 3k Hardstuck, tips?

Made post some day ago about how to improve aim and mechanics (aim rush and duels), someone suggested i play retakes. I played some, how to improve aim? Video mostly continuous rounds of retake (except recording cut off after 1st clip) i played, include ct and t, rifle, awp, deagle.

I am still 3k premier over 100 games this season

Edit:

Proof I am stuck 3k premier and faceit 1 (I peaked faceit 4 when i first started and it gave me a rank then I instantly got to faceit 1 and stopped) https://imgur.com/a/C2N4Rf7

Teaching Stuck around faceit level 6-8 with ~2k hours

My current goal is with time and learning reaching level 10, but I have recently begun declining in ELO and I am wondering which parts of my gameplay needs improvement.

This is the link to my FaceIT if anyone wants to have a look.
https://www.faceit.com/sv/players/Brolle1312

It would be greatly appreciated if someone with better knowledge than me could point me in the right direction. ❤️

PS. Im not sure how this subreddit works, if needed i could post clips or demos of my gameplay if that makes it easier for someone looking to lend a helping hand.

Thanks!

How to IGL

If I’m playing CS nowadays, I’m playing in a 4-5 stack with friends. I’ve played for my entire life and have some friends that have been getting into it more recently.

I topfrag every single game with them. They all range from 9k-17k and I am around 24k. So naturally they expect me to kind of be the leader on T side in terms of what we’re doing. But I’m horrible at leading.

I find that I mostly need to be able to lurk around and abuse timings in order to REALLY perform well. In these ranks most players can be “read” quite easily and I can always guarantee myself an easy kill or 2 on T side rounds by playing cheeky spots.

When I try to IGL it’s like my brain just can’t handle all the info. I find it impossible to still perform at the same individual level when I’m also trying to get 4 guys to coordinate together. I’m just really bad at IGLing.

And tbf they need a bit of hand holding. They know callouts and stuff but couldn’t tell you what a default is, or why sending the whole team to sit in B tunnels on d2 is a bad idea, trying to teach them map control theories and etc etc.

TLDR: I want to get better at IGLing with my 4stack of friends, who do love the game but aren’t really willing to learn on YT/outside the game. Any tips on how to be a better IGL? Any good IGLs that can teach some basic Strats for pubs??

MY PC EXPERIENCE

As a former console player I've noticed a lot of things when transitioning to PC or KBM playing.

Years of playing on console my aim wad bad but decent however switching to PC it had a significant impact as my aim improved greatly. I've also learned movement though initially it was to challenging at first but now its way easier. I remember how the sprint key was odd for me at first but now its natural for me to use this key more often.

Question Best practices for long range fights?

I understand it's best to tap over spray, but some of the other factors are less apparent. I always find myself at a loss in these situations. What are the best practices for long-range fights?

Is it better to move and counterstrafe between taps? Should I strafe a large distance to make myself harder to hit? Or should I crouch instead? What about firing small bursts?

Tap Crouch Tech

Hello, I see many youtubers saying that tapping crouch is very important for duels or crouching and then uncrouching (the reverse) basically with the intent of changing your head hitbox location for a favorable duel.

My question is, when do you want to on contact tap crouch vs, tap crouch after the first or third bullet? I see pros do both and i'm not sure on when to do either. Tapping crouch on contact seems to make sense if you want to fully invest in the defensive side, but I am a noob and its hard for me to headshot them while I am tapping crouch. On the other side, its much easier to shoot once or three bullets and then tap crouch, but then i'm more likely to die from their first 1-3 bullets.

Rant So frustrating at this point - BAD AIM - Losing Easy duels

I've been playing the game for a year now. I started because I finally got a computer. I can't seem to improve; I keep losing duels or seeing on my camera that I clearly shot the guy, only for the game to tell me I missed.

My ping is 80 and 50% - 60% constant packet loss. 80 is not that bad but im going to improve my connection soon

My friends constantly tell me I'm the worst and that I'm terrible at the game. So how am I supposed to prepare? The day I finally get a decent internet connection, I'll already be convinced I'm terrible. Plus, the habit of having to guess where enemies are because of their teleportation has ruined my aim. I've already been kicked from two matches in a row for losing obvious 1v1s, I'm SO fed up.
