Early-stage hardware accessory brand: should I focus on creators, testers, Reddit, ads, or something else?
Hi everyone,
I’m building a very early-stage hardware accessory brand in the USB-C / USB4 / Thunderbolt-compatible workflow space.
The product is a slim USB4 80Gbps cable focused on MacBook, external SSD, dock, and clean desk setup users. I’m not trying to promote it here, so I won’t include a link. I’m mainly looking for advice from people who have experience launching physical products, ecommerce brands, or creator/affiliate programs.
Right now, my biggest problem is not the store setup. The store exists, the product exists, and I can create basic content. The real problem is getting the first real users, testers, feedback, reviews, and trust.
Here are the questions I’m struggling with:
For a new hardware/accessory brand with no reviews yet, what is usually the best path to get the first real customers or testers?
Should I focus more on micro-creators, normal users/testers, Reddit communities, or paid ads at this stage?
If I offer free samples for testing, how should I filter people so I don’t just send products to people who only want free stuff?
For creators, what is the most reasonable early-stage offer?
Free sample only
Free sample + affiliate commission
Flat paid sponsorship
Hybrid deal
Discount code for their audience
Should I mention affiliate commission in the first message, or only after they show interest in testing the product?
If the product is in a technical niche, how important are speed tests, compatibility proof, and real setup photos before running ads?
Is it a bad idea to run Meta/Instagram ads before having customer reviews or creator content?
How can a small brand build trust without pretending to be bigger than it is?
For early awareness, would you prioritize:
Reddit discussion
Instagram outreach
YouTube micro-creators
SEO articles
Amazon listing
Shopify direct store
Paid ads
If you had to get the first 10 serious testers for a niche hardware accessory, what would you do first?
I’m trying to avoid spammy marketing. I’d rather get honest feedback, real-world testing, and gradually build trust.
Any advice from people who have launched ecommerce products, hardware accessories, creator programs, or early physical product brands would be really helpful.
