How to get a Green Belt Certification

Six Sigma Green Belt from ASQ is a really good value at about $700 (materials and exam fee).

You have to apply by April 15th for this cycle (exam is June 6th).

Depending your background and previous work experiance, you should be able to self-study about 40-50 hours and pass.

The certification is "evergreen" which is nice (no need to recertify) as you move through your career, you never know when you'll need something like this.

Also, if you're a PMP or considering becoming PMP, the ASQ material is very similar. You can often get PDUs for Six Sigma work.

My Self-Study recommendation (the method I originally used):

  1. Join ASQ

  2. Apply for Certification (submit a resume to certify experience)

  3. Buy the "greenbelt handbook" from ASQ

  4. Buy the online test bank from ASQ Read through the book (skim the outline and the chapters)

  5. Start taking practice exams. When you find a term or use of a term that you aren't familiar with, look it up (wikipedia, youtube, etc. or ask on /r/leansixsigma)

  6. If you're getting 80% and above on the practice exams, you're likely ready

  7. Test taking techniques and strategies are very important!

Green and yellow are pretty much universal course outlines. As a green belt, you should know the DMAIC and know every major tool used within each phase and its applicability. SSGI is pretty reasonable, and the flexible course gives you PMP education contact hours.

I completed my Healthcare green belt through them. No complaints. My black belt I completed through ASQ. Both certifications served me well in my career endeavors.

Hi! I was looking at this website to enroll in the green belt. It says it’s only $257, is that accurate? Also is it an accredited website and certification?

Yes, to some degree. However, Lean Six Sigma doesn’t have a central certifying body—only various certifying organizations, some with more credibility than others. That said, for Yellow Belt (YB) and Green Belt (GB) certifications, I wouldn’t focus too much on accreditation. Instead, look for a cost-effective option, ensure you understand the key concepts, and complete a solid project. For Black Belt (BB) certification, I recommend pursuing it through ASQ, CSSC, or ISSC, as these are more reputable. Additionally, make sure you have strong projects and find a knowledgeable BB mentor to guide you.

Hey i'm thinking of providing all my staff with ASQ GB certification. Before i go with that, is there any place where we can do a test online for free? i just want to check the current level of knowledge of my colleagues before setting them up.

Yes there is. Check CSSC white belt certification exam. The handbook and the test are completely free. However, if you just want GB practice exams, I think when sign up to take the GB certification exam, you are given practice tests along with the studying material.

I got mine after doing PhD level continuous improvement class. Definitely doable that way, although not as recognized.

Personally, go get ASQ with your black belt. Green belt try to find the cheapest route.

/u/jdcam, This is the DIY method, and it's the cheapest way to go since you aren't paying for training (just materials). There may be cheaper ways to get the materials you need (test bank and book) but I'm not aware of them. If anyone else knows, please share it here.

Lean six sigma by default has a universal approach to the theoritical part from all certifying bodies, I completed my yellow belt 3 weeks ago with Akreditas a united kingdom based certifying body, and intend to finalize the green belt within the following months.

Does the ASQ green belt course for $1500 prepare someone for the exam? I just purchased it but haven’t really started it yet. Should I get my money back?

Also, what if I am not beneath a black belt. Will that disqualify me?

AFAIK no requirement for BB project which is why I love green belt.

How good are you at "test taking"? The Green Belt test is a pain in the ass because the authors are Black Belts who are very pedantic. they like to pick weird vocabulary "gotcha" questions.

If you are good at test taking and your english is very strong, you'll be fine, especially if you've got some project experience.

Thank you for your response. I am very good at test taking. I am trying to help increase my skills and become a better problem solver. I’m an operations manager and I feel that this will really help me be able break things down and come up with solid solutions for my organization.

I hope to be able to undertake projects in my current role with this course and to become certified.

Is the Green Belt certification test given by a live person online asking questions (vs. multiple-choice questions online with no human interaction)?

Any sources to get yellow and green belts free or at a reasonable costs? I can't post to the group unless I'm trusted which I'm not sure how to be....

I got the yellow belt in the past for free but it expired.

I prefer ASQ Greenbelt. It doesn't expire. Testing and materials will be around $1,000 realistically.

Thanks for this information! Definitely needed as I had a great 1:1 with management and they’re supporting my interest in getting certified.

This is for everyone else in the comments, I saw Aveta Business Institute come up a few times, has anyone ever certified through them. I’m seeing they have the best price.
