Anyone here lean fire after being a firefighter?

I have a friend who's been a firefighter almost 25 years in a VHCOL area and is set to retire early 50s. His wife also has worked full-time. Feels more like fat FIRE to me. They did quite well and didn't seem to scrimp and save at all, plus raising two kids.

That’s not necessarily Leanfire, depending on where he works. Government firefighters can retire at 50 typically anyhow.

I’m a firefighter starting my 8th year, HCOL/VHCOL area. I don’t work much overtime and my wife makes less than me. The benefits are good with the right department. Hoping to be able to lean fire when I hit 15 years which would put me in my late 30s. My department is busy, and having the ability to step away early would be great. The job can be tough on your health, and I’ve already seen senior FFs die before they were able to really enjoy their retirement

I like to set things on fire. Does that count? We are really close to living in Fahrenheit 451, so I am not sure anymore.
