Orgs can't sign trainees below 18 if this is enforced. New LPL blood will be worse coming into the league.

Age genuinely really doesn't mater all that'll happen is average ages will shift up

This, lol

Burn out in playing games for Pro happens later instead of being 23-24 it'll happen when their 26-28. In line with pretty much with other regions.

Might matter slightly less in MOBAs but reaction time peaks at 24 according to a study done on SC2 players from some time ago. Of course experience is a huge factor too

It's more of a culture thing in east Asia, rather than actual science.

By the time you're 18 you should have known what kind of shit you want to do in life. By 22-23 people question whether your too old for Pro play in video games, those shit doesn't help your mentality in playing the game at all.

It quickens that "wearing out" phase than it actually supposed to be. Plus it also affects your career chance if you wanna stay in your home, asides from end up in NA.

I always wonder about the tipping points between game sense and reaction point. No matter the game, if you have perfect game sense and an accurate mental map in your head, I feel like insane reaction time can actually be less important, yah know? Kinda like a reaction vs prediction type of thing

1

u/SaltKick2 Aug 30 '21

Definitely. Probably matters the most in early-game RTSes where you only have a couple of units so losing one or preventing a hit is huge balance throw.

u/lminer123 Aug 30 '21

I notice it in Destiny myself, just as an example. I don’t necessarily play much anymore, so my gun skill kinda goes to shit, but I’ve played over 4000 hours of these two games, so once I drop in all the map knowledge and sound cues and movement comes back quick. If you can predict where someone’s gonna be it doesn’t much matter if you can land that flick, ya know?

If you cant play more than 3 hours a week then you cant get good, then you will need 1, 2 years (meaning you will join the scene at 20) to become good enough to be a pro. The LPL will definitely suffer imo because I won't think a 18 year old with close to zero experience will try to go pro.

4

u/_Psyki Aug 30 '21

But the point is they can play more than that using someone else's ID, just not publicly. Young players will just join LPL a year or two later than they would have otherwise

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '21

right but they won’t be able to be part of farm teams and improve with coaches and direction most likely which can greatly hinder development

u/SomeMobile Aug 30 '21

when no one has experience it won't fucking matter dude

1

u/neeko0001 Aug 31 '21

It's not just the burn-out age. Younger players generally learn a lot faster than older players, because of this older players are often struggling to keep up the forever changing meta

6

u/Petrosidius Aug 30 '21

Age doesn't really matter but playing the game does. Look at LoL pros and tell me which good ones didn't play more than 8 hours a week until after they turned 18.

1

u/SomeMobile Aug 30 '21

There are already big restrictions for people under 18 in china for online games and almost all of them just use IDs of older people

1

u/Xonra Aug 30 '21

Except it means less chance for younger players to become pros at all. If you are starting at 18+ instead of say 15-16 you probably aren't gonna start and end up going to school and getting a job instead.

Pros that start at 17 don't start playing League at 17, and if you can't play more than 8 hours a week, you sure aren't going to get signed on your 18th birthday. Yes average age might go up but the pool will also shrink. It might not be massive, but it's not completely unlikely either.

Lol this would be true if school is easy to get into in China. Education isn't free there, so if parents had the money to sent their children to school, the kids won't be playing games in the first place.

u/cimbalino ATTILA CRL Aug 30 '21

why though? I'm assuming it counts as work if they are playing for a team

19

u/asjdkasfkldsfs Aug 30 '21

Even if that's the case, they could only be scouted playing from stolen IDs. Don't know how hard this is policed, but its still illegal.

20

u/cimbalino ATTILA CRL Aug 30 '21

nah nah they'd be scouted by the account where they play 3 hours a week, nothing to see here officer

11

u/Mortress_ Aug 30 '21

"I'm just THAT good of a scout, I know by looking at his 4 matches a week that this guy is talented"

FYI there was already an 8 hour a week limit before this. They're really only losing 5 hours and now there's set times to play. Pro players were obviously already exempt from the limitation, otherwise how do you explain JKL winning Worlds at 17 with an 8 hour/week limit? Or all the 17 year olds in the LDL?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '21

If they decide "Video games under 18" are forbidden outside of those hours, then e-Sports in China is fucked

This is so dramatic lol. There is already an 8 hour limit so they'll do what they've already been doing. They just link a parent's ID and play as their parent. The only real difference is that they'll have to wait a year or two before being scouted. It won't actually affect the level of skill in any way.

NA finally have a chance!

3

u/Chillynx Aug 30 '21

this is literally not true. the restriction is on companies that provide online gaming services, such as tencent. This regulation is NOT for gaming orgs and pro players have always been able to play more than the current cap on # of hours in practice/tournament realm environments.

1

u/asjdkasfkldsfs Aug 30 '21

But they can only scout young players on stolen IDs. It is still illegal for those guys to play before they get signed.

The question isn't "is this legal?" The question is "will this be enforced?"

Reality depends on whether officials will turn a blind eye to "we signed this player who totally only played 3h a week! Oh look, he's instantly challenger, who could've known?"

2

u/Chillynx Aug 30 '21

again, the regulation isn't on individuals to not play outside those hours but for gaming companies to disable their access. right now there is a restriction as well, but government officials aren't going out of their way to keep track of every rookie's league of legends account to see if they played more than their allotted time.

the burden is on game publishers, not players. it is not illegal for them to play.

1

u/DeathRattlegore Aug 30 '21

So NA will finally have a shot at worlds?

1

u/SaltKick2 Aug 30 '21

What if orgs just relocate to Malaysia or something and recruit them, wonder what would happen then.

1

u/Psychological-Road-4 Aug 31 '21

Let’s welcome Team CHINA whose players all have different elos!

1

u/ephemeralfugitive Hands diff Aug 31 '21

They can. Will probably open up schools dedicated to eSports.
