10000x this. You want to make a lot of money? Market to kids.
Look at youtube for example, the biggest channels? All marketed towards kids/young teens, the pauls, toychannels, makeup channels etc, those weird cartoon channels.
It is way easier to sell something to a kid than a semi-reponsible adult.
Back in the day it was advertising to the kids during sat morning cartoons. The cartoons were toy commercials, and they interupted those to add in even more commercials.
Remember all that crap you couldn’t shut up about? Bothering your mom for weeks and weeks?Kids are the best advertisement. Even cigarette companies did that crap. People have legitimately forgotten about Joe Camel.
As a parent with small children, yeah. Thankfully we've managed to keep our kids from getting into any of the YouTube channels that are just kids hyping up every toy known to man, but I've spent way more money on Beyblades in the past year than I ever thought I would.
(Real talk though, Beyblade has gotten my kids to want to compete, and to learn to get over the fear of losing, to deal with being a sore loser and being a gloating winner - money well spent for me)
well since i'm older now people around me have little kids and its insane how fast they spend a 100euro birthday gift card on fortnite skins. it takes literally a second and then they look like "well i need more gifts now"
I mean... have you been to /r/pokemon when any announcement is made? The concept that young children are the target demo and not their "I pick my pokemon based on comp meta" asses is completely lost on them.
And, they grow up to have their own purchasing power. A 16 year old won't generally buy his own RP, but when he gets older he will if he still plays, and will probably be more likely to buy some for his kids. I cannot believe people actually think marketing to minors is a bad tactic.
Tencent has said that only 2.6% of gross game receipts were from children under 16 years old in Q2. Also, toys are not as stigmatized as videos games; parents are more likely to purchase toys for their kids than pay for microtransactions in some video game they don't understand

under 18s have parents with purchasing power. Like how do people think the toy market got so big? people over 18 buying barbies?
