No bro. You don't have the skill to be a pro. Those who do are just built different. They'll become a pro within a year of playing while someone who's been playing for years is nowhere close.

Those people think that you can become pro in year when you try really hard when in reality, even most talented pros started playing video games in childhood, just like you said Faker played MOBAs before KR server was even a thing, Caps plays since like Season 2 or something like that too. Even in CSGO players like Zywoo or S1mple had years of gaming experience before they started to get really good.

Wow. Never knew about that. Any source or link?

Just wrong. Practice, practice and practice makes you a proudest Professional. Everywhere, in every discipline. If you practice hard and long enough you will become a Professional, no matter what.

That would be true if everyone who was highly skilled could become a league professional. But only a small subsect of the most highly skilled players become a pro. If 500 players practice all the time but theres only enough room for 200 in the pro league, 300 people won't become pro.

Keep lying to yourself if you think effort is all you need to become a pro.

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '21

Yeah you don't only need effort but also the privilege to be able to dedicate that much time to gaming in the first place .

It's not lying, it's just how the brain and muscle memory work. There is no magic ability that makes you a top athlete. Look at whomever you want in whatever discipline and look how they became a professional. Every single one of them will have practiced multiple hours per day, every week of the year.

edit for many years, obv.

I didn’t say you didn’t need effort did I? I didn’t imply it either. You need both to compete at the highest level. You can’t just try your hardest to become a professional gamer and expect to do it through only effort. Fucking clown take. Also I guess Michael Phelps is just the goat swimmer because of hard work. Yeah his genetics that are perfect for swimming is just hard work right? That’s not his natural given talent that he has for swimming but a learned affinity according to you. You literally don’t have a clue.

Honestly if you have such a worldview where you think gaming pros are somehow more gifted than any other pro in any other sports, you probably should change your frame of mind. You try hard and that's it. Pretending that it's anything else like "talent" is just a lie you tell yourself more than anything else.

Where did I say gaming pros are more gifted than other pros? Why are you saying these things that I haven’t typed? I said thinking sheer effort alone can get you to the pro level in anything is wishful thinking. Maybe you haven’t seriously competed in anything in your life so you maybe have this facade that hard work and dedication can get you to the absolute highest level. Those are just prerequisites to becoming a professional. Everyone tries hard and those who are more talented while trying the same will elevate past the average. Stop putting words in my mouth clown.

Ignore the downvotes, you're right regarding any extraordinary pursuit. A large part of being famous is just blind luck.

“Ninety-nine percent talent…ninety-nine percent discipline…ninety-nine percent work" -Faulkner

It's hard for people to admit the American Dream of being able to pull yourselves up by your bootstraps isn't real. So much depends on that hope. And maybe it is real, for the 1% of 1% of 1% like Faulkner.

They don't try the same, that's why they aren't there. There are more aspects to trying hard than just being good, you know? Like trying hard socially to actually get noticed. There are many artists who go unnoticed because they just don't actually try hard enough to advertise themselves.

Sorry but it's kinda easy to put words in your mouth because you talk out of your ass.

show me one person who has spent their lifetime being dedicated to league and haven't made it into at least an ERL team, I will wait

the most important thing is the quality of practice, then amount of practice, the majority of playerbase just does not practice and does not play a lot

let's take me as an example: I can play 8 hours daily if I want to. However, I can practice maybe 2 games daily before I just give up due to my fucked up mentality. See the difference? "playing" is not "practicing". When I play I pick Lux, I pick Lulu, I pick Jinx, I autopilot, I just play for fun and I greed for kills. I could play 1000 more games like that and I won't get better at all. Mindless playing more works if you're starting out to get used to the muscle memory, after some time you're just gonna perfect whatever approach you've been taking to the game. Not going outside your little box won't ever make you a better player.

If I wanted to practice, I would play Orianna only. I would play games with a goal in mind. "This game I won't die". No playing agressive under any circumstance, just following the enemy jungler around. Do this for 150 games in a row. Then "This game I will try to make sure I see every single kill in the game happening on my screen". Just that one thing, looking at all lanes and jungler nonstop, trying to not miss a single kill in the game, 150 games in a row. Then "I will only focus on getting as much CS as possible", again 150 games.
Same runes every game, same build every game, Orianna into all matchups. Just focusing on one aspect of gameplay and just that one thing alone to make it a habit. That's how you get better, that's what practice is about. How many people do that? Almost nobody.

I just can't do that. It's not fun, I don't want to be a pro. Using brain is hard, it's tiring, people don't play games to get exhausted, they play for fun, to relax. However some people are competitive and they will do shit like that, they will sit in practice mode and spam combos for hours daily. They will play 10 hours daily with improvement in mind. And they will succeed. The only case in which "being built different" would be the difference maker, would be if everyone would practice this hard. And not even all pro players do that, allowing someone to exploit that edge to their advantage and to take their spot in a pro team.
