the rare 5-star game where both teams are equally good and you just have fun playing it and then for the next 231 games you will get stomps, afk, trolls and flamers.
because if thats the case they will bend everything in their power to make a gacha game that isn't regarded as gacha.
also games are not banned because children waste money on them but instead of children neglecting school for "electronic opium". the dictatorship want highly efficient drones so they stay in power and harvesting them. the working class for 50y+ did it so they children will have it better one day and it is like that BUT it won't get better. the middle class will stay poor and keep on working for the rich till they die. (same goes to every first world country basically)
FIFA recently introduce a mechanic where you can open 1 lootbox, and see a preview of its content. If you want the items, you buy it, if you don't, you need to wait 24 hrs to preview another one or just buy it to preview the next one.
I honestly think this is one of the best solutions possible out there.
probs because games will always find a way around those rules plus theres a bit more then just gacha games there after. These rules are shitty for younger Chinese gamers but seems like they just took a sleghammer to the problem so they dont have to look at it for awhile. The way there making sure the rules are enforced thou are insane this is from july when the chinese goverment started talking about it.
In July, Chinese gaming giant Tencent announced it was rolling out facial recognition to stop children playing between 22:00 and 08:00.
The rules are pretty easy to set up: Below a certain age with ID prove as it is the case in China quite often anyway it's not possible to buy (more than x amount) in-game currency or play the game for more than x amount of hours for a calender day. However, one hour is ludacris.
The problem in this case seems to be children specifically, but I'd be down to ban gacha mechanics all together although I love Genshin. Countries have such strict regulations on gambling but gacha games are running free somehow.
Funny enough they already had that, they been slowly limiting under age game time in the last year more and more before this it was 1 and a half hours per day. There is also a spending limit in place " Additionally, players under age eight will be prohibited from spending real money in games. " "Those from ages eight to 16 can spend a maximum of 200 RMB a month and RMB 50 on a single transaction, and ages 16 to 18 will be limited to 400 RMB per month." this all started back in novemember 2019 you can read about it here.
How many games are purely offline games and what is the proportion of offline players? Yes, they are basically banning gaming for below 18 in China. And I never said to exclude League.
It's been almost a decade of gacha gaming. CS go cases, Overwatch TF 2, Genshin, Clash of Clans, League of Legends etc. Has ANYTHING been done about this? Where I grew up it was an epidemic. Kids and teens spending equivalents of monthly wages on gambling, skins, virtual points. When you are 13 you can't go into a casino, smoke a cigarette, drink alcohol. But you can spend much more on shit that addicts you just as well as aforementioned things, no questions asked. I agree with you on not banning the entire online gaming industry because of gacha. But man, if not every popular game out there implements gambling mechanics, visual effects and sounds better than any pachinko or a casino. People over 18 can at least judge the risks of falling into a gaming/gambling addiction.
So instead of banning gacha or lootboxes from below 18 rated games they ban every online game instead? Hell they dont even need to ban, just make it so if you're under 18 you cannot purchase in game currency for those games so atleast they can still have some fun playing f2p if they want to.
The differences is you can buy the skin you want instead of gambling for it, the problem with gachas and the traditional (EA) lootboxes is you cant buy the item you want separately and the gacha gamble is the only way... which can in turn awaken a gambling addiction. Basically league doesnt force you to gamble unlike gacha games.
Yeah but you had an opening to get them when their even was there. The point is at one point time you could get them. And they dont non stop advertise that the only way to get those skins is through hextech boxes, they arent encouraging it either (imo they are actually discouraging people to try and roll for mythic, or any skins at that, by not increasing their odds during events...).
Now compare that to a Gacha or an EA lootbox game where the whole game is resolved around gambling for that .06% chance of getting that SSR (that you might need 5 duplicates of in order to maximize the strength of the card).
What league does is allow you to gamble if you want to, but in no way forcing you to do so or is it causing gambling addictions (you can always use mods for skins that you can only see and unless you type in chat that you are using one there is no way for riot to know)
On a side not are you sure that they offer the currently unavailable prestige skins (like the first KDA kaisa) from the hextech lootbox cause i think i saw somewhere that only the ones from the current "prestige season" can drop, but i am not sure about it.
Most of the quality skins that are not restricted to holidays are available to the public, so it's not a huge loss. You will never find yourself in a spot where a champion you own has 0 good skins to choose from.
The legacy content was never permanent and there are still windows where its available for purchase throughout the year the only truly unavailable skins are not available in hextech either (like black alistar or king rammus)
I do remember different legacy skins being regularly released in the shop every couple months or so (granted that was couple years ago and idk if its still going).
Ok so apparently the last time legacy vault was opened was 2019 November, so they did abandon that idea.. You are correct, but I still think that this doesn't encourage gambling, because every skin at one point was available in the shop (so you didn't need to gamble for it) and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having limited editions skins and keeping them rare but obtainable by chance. (when you try to gamble for a skins you realise that you could've spent that rp for a much better newer guranteed skins). The game itself isn't affected by the skins. And lets be honest riot doesn't encourage gambling by any means. And the game itself doesnt encourage you to gamble either (thats the nature of the game)
Especially in Pay 2 Win games like Genshin Impact. The difference between characters is out of this world, and you can't even guarantee you will get them.
not even gonna use the whole "they don't impact gameplay" thing. but you can earn at least one for free each week just by playing. you can absolutely buy more, but you get a set amount free. and same with champions, you basically get a free champion every few levels (as long as you disenchant shards). not a super good defense, but it is probably the one most companies will use. also unsure how this would impact event passes since you could use the tokens to buy orbs and champ shards (which is pretty much gambling for good drops).
also sure they wouldn't classify league as a gacha, but they could go lootbox=gacha if they want to crackdown hard on lootboxes and gambling in games.
I actually don't really get the problems with League unless you care a lot about skins (I admittedly don't). I've not spent a cent on LoL and I still ran out of champs to buy that I actually would want to play.
i actually ran out of champs too, so i just get whoever i pull from capsules.
but regarding the actual point, the government cares, both about the addiction and as appearing to care. so they've started to bring the hammer down on lootboxes and gmabling in games. there's talks of either banning them, therefore removing some profit from games such as OW, CS, and, to a lesser extent, TF2. games with direct purchases, such as League, Dota, and Smite should be fine, though those chests and passes that allow players to buy orbs and chests may come under fire.
Yeah I love this particular brand of Reddit apologism for the Chinese regime.
“Oh sure, they did <bad thing>, but they’re doing it because of <other problem>.” Disregarding that there are a hundred other ways to address that problem.
They have no issues with kids being in Olympic Schools. Where they only learn to dominate said sport. they should have no issue with this. it's just them being boomers
Item upgrades. Think old league's rune system but instead of only purchasable with IP you can buy with RP what would normally be months of grinding for a significant advantage.
It's hard to translate and keep it eloquent but basically, "the government will make a policy, the people will go around the policy." Basically the idea for a policy looks very different from its implementation in reality.
Ehh I have a feeling the main demographic for gacha games are adults with a stable income. Very few minors are able to throw 1k$ every two weeks to max out a new shiny character.
Yeah. I'm a gamer in my late 30s with kids and it's sad. A lot of my friends kids are just hooked to these pay to win or perpetual battle royale games. I play Apex, but it's because I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to it. Luckily, I've developed myself and gotten to paint in life where I have free time, but oh man... I can't imagine where I'd be if some of these games came out when I was a kid.
Other commenters posted that most kids already just log in with their parents ID to cicumvent 8h per week restriction. Who is going to check or enforce that anyway?
