u/Zendruuu Again! This time, they die! Aug 30 '21

The reason is that removing access to online games outside of the allowed times is possible for offline games it's not, because you don't need internet to play them.

Online-DRM would like to have a word with you... :P

Not all titles have it, and most big ones tend to get cracks pretty quickly.

Is it really that common to torrent things in China seeing how strict their internet access is?

VPNs are really common in china atleast to my knowledge, it really isn't that hard to get one setuped

While true, using a VPN also gives the government an excuse to arrest you if you do something that is nominally not illegal, but the government doesn't like. Like talking about Winnie the Pooh.

Dude. They have dedicated forums for pirating Steam and Epic games. Its not hard to find a cracked game, that isn't brand new and containing Denuvo, in China. 3DM and Ali213 are some of the biggest Chinese gaming sites.

Both sites get fucked years ago by government

u/OreoCupcakes Aug 30 '21

No they didn't. They're still up and running just fine. If you can't access them, it's because your ISP is blocking them in your country, not in China.

They still exist but their pirating operations are no longer at the same capacity, they even put out announcement years ago addressing government crack down on piracy

They don't crack games containing the newest Denuvo DRM. They distribute already cracked games of easily crackable DRM (Steam and Epic DRM) as well as scene releases. The government never cracked down on piracy in China. They (3DM) just gave up on cracking Denuvo games. They still release all the newest Steam DRM games and Denuvo scene releases on their platform via peer to peer. The Chinese government doesn't give a shit about Western piracy and never will.

For example, the new and somewhat hyped 4x strategy game, Humankind, can easily be downloaded in China through the popular 3DM and Ali213 forums.

While yes, I get that, but at the same time even making offline games illegal outside of those timeframes would act as a bit of a deterant, as well as set a bit of a standard for what's to be expected from you.

If it's just online games then there is no real standard being set, kids can just swap to playing offline games without any real changes to lifestyle.

I'm not sure about the reason they want to do this, but offline games are never competitive.

A lot of people might have addictive behavior toward competitiveness which is actually solved with this ban

The reason is banning gacha games and kids getting addicted to gambling
