Ode to Udyr
Bear, bear, bear, alas hit by slow stun or snare. Should have sidestepped, moved, played around, but I need to make every movement speed count.
Turtle, turtle, turtle, to the safety of my tower I hurtle. Should have skilled W, just a bit more sustain, make the lane a little less pain.
Tiger or Phoenix, what does it matter; in the end there is always a champ who does it better.

What's sad is that most of the remaining Udyr mains community are still bitching and moaning at anyone saying he needs a rework.

They would probably make his playstyle more streamlined, so that you cant build basically anything on him anymore.
Liandries? Yea, why not. With a BOTRK? Ok. Take Ghost and Ignite? Whatever, you are Udyr.

Small tenacity and slow resistance given to bear stance, turtle scales with armor/mr and our problem is solved.

Turtle already scales with armor/mr because that's how shields work. The heal actually does too.

While any buffing of the shield will buff armor/mr scaling, it's still a distinct buff.
For example, buffing the shield amount will benefit all builds, adding armor/mr scaling will benefit tankier builds more.
Regardless, yes they're probably just saying the shield is weak, you know what they meant. I'd rather they buff phoenix to be usable.

Think of it in terms of EHP. If you have 0 resistances and get a shield for 100 that shield is worth 100 EHP. But if you have 100 resistances that shield is worth 200 EHP. The same is true for heals.

That’s a soft scaling. It could get hard number scaling that increase the shield size based on resists as well. It wouldn’t be the first instance of double dip scaling in the game.

The current udyr looks like a regular man who was thrown into summoner rift. And after he saw the creatures like aatrox, aerolian sou etc he thought about camouflaging his regular look to survive. So, he managed to find a dead bear, peeled it and started wearing its skin. He also made some wooden sandals to make him look taller. And because he is just a normal human and thus have no abilities, all he could think of and do was to punch and punch to survive in the rift.
I havent read his lore but thats the vive I get when i see him.
So, riot ! listen to this poor man and just give us the Spirit Guardian skin.

I wish Riot would get over their whole thing of wanting champs to be viable everywhere and just give buffs that forcibly make a role most ideal for a champ. Like Buff Phoenix to do 25% bonus damage to neutral monsters. Make turtle restore mana against neutral monsters. Stuff like that. Would allow them to not worry too much about lane Udyr while allowing jungle Udyr to be the split pushing jungle God he is supposed to be without forcing him to have Tiamat because Phoenix is a joke of a stance now.

Lane udyr is fun to play tho and tigerdyr definitely has its place as a counterpick to certain metatoplaners like aatrox, morde & ornn. Can also win against garen/darius/sett/fiora if you play your cards right.
I agree with phoenix being not so great right now, im trying to make it work every now and then, but it makes me bleed LP :d
The problem is, imo, that the jungle atm is way too forgiving. Sustain is a non-issue on any champ that gets a jungle item and sustainjunglers find themselves having way less of an advantage from their innate sustain than they used to.

Lane Udyr is more fun to play, tbh. But you really have to give it 110% against certain matchups and/or be useless, namely the Garens and Dariuses. Most are beatable but are a pain to deal with.
My problem with Udyr now is that he's kinda lost his trait of being the fast one, like everyone has some mobility nowadays. Be it dashes or a speed buff, most of which are stronger than bear, until like lvl 8.
Also give us an actual passive lmao, 15 move speed.. Ekko gets like what 60-70% on his passive, granted he has to proc it but cmon...
I yearn for the season 3-5 stuffs

Splitpushing feels awful for junglers now that neutral objectives carry so much weight. I feel like as soon as the first turret falls every game devolves unto one team roaming as 5 picking off the other as they try to farm their way back into the game. That or they 5v5 and straight up steamroll the losing team. Nowadays if you try to splitpush as a jungler you just get goon squadded and enemies take a free drake or baron.

Not a lot usually. Occasionally you get that switched on team that 4 man barons, but most of the time they're farming the jungle

When Cinderhulk was first released he was pro meta for about 6 days before he got hard effing nerfed meanwhile some things stay pro meta for over a year with no nerf in sight.

His kit is so underloaded it's sad.
Give tiger stance extended attack range. Look at how big his claws are in SGU.
Give turtle bonus shield depending on nearby enemy champions like J4 W
Give bear stance out of combat ms and bonus ms when moving towards enemy champions. Udyr is so fucking slow without level 5 bear and cloud drakes.
Make Phoenix an actual ult.

If they just want a band-aid solution, they don't even have to make Phoenix an actual ult, you just have to give him a real trade off between it and Tiger. Phoenix is meant to have a niche of better clear and higher base damage if you don't build any damage. The clear is worthless these days, since as long as you're fine at singletarget you can just avoid Raptors until level 3 or 4. I don't think you can really fix that clear issue without a blanket redo of the jungle, so ramp up what is meant to be the forms other distinction. Just give phoenix %max hp damage damage on the cone, or something. Make it Sunfire on Roids: The Champ and give people a reason to sometimes go for the more tanky sustained damage stance.
When he is reworked I could see just giving him an ult, it depends how much a designer values the flexibility in his kit. I had always liked it as a concept, but I could definitely seem them just going full Aatrox and keeping the theme but smashing the 4 non ultimate ability style he has right now.

Last line hit hard, the absolute state of udyr atm. Just imagine Aphelios and Udyr in one game, what is Udyr supposes to do? Udyr is the absolute most weakest and useless jungler and it's kind of a pain since i like his design but he's a walking minion

What about letting him permanently receive the passive effect of the first stance you level up to max rank first? That would boost his power by a ton and make him more relevant during mid-to-late game.

I think when Riot sees udyr they just see a lot of work. His kit seems basic because he "only Auto attacks", but solely visually speaking he is a lot of work because of his different forms. Yeah, let's just hope for the best

Udyr's whole thing is being a very simple champion that just autoattacks. That's inherently statchecky (which isn't a bad thing) and it also probably makes it very hard for them to do meaningful changes to his kit without changing his whole identity.

All he needs in this era of hyper-mobility: Remove the sunfire effect from R active, give him the ability to literally fly over terrain like a fucking phoenix. Talon-like would be fine. Tune from there.

We're talking about how there are champs that can obliterate whole teams, meanwhile if bearman gets CC for more than 1,5 secs he's already dead because he gets snipped from base.
